  Re:mote Induction: haujobb - ninetynine
But it is the vocal tone which highlights the way that ninetynine flows from one track to another, as that tone is picked up and emerges as the key vocal in the track Overflow.
The pacing of ninetynine, as an album, is slow overall, which contributes to the conclusion that the album is a mood piece.
While by contrast in the right mood ninetynine is a floating, luxurious experience to be relished with the inclusion of Briggs sensuous vocal being a cunning move.

Ninetynine's self titled debut on Patsy followed soon after as well as tours of the U.S., New Zealand and Europe.
In 2000 Ninetynine released their third album '180 Degrees' on Radio One and Patsy to local and overseas a cclaim.
But while incorporating these unusual instruments into indie rock are a good way to attract attention, Ninetynine's two gals and two guys take turns stunning you with melodic and moody droners and ridiculous poppy bits that would've been just as potent without the mallets and keys.

RAN: Ninetynine, The Lollies, The Projects - Metro Club, London, 29 Oct 2002   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
In the past, Ninetynine have played on tour with everybody from pop bands to metal bands, though tonight, indie-pop was to be the order of the day.
My only criticism of the gig was that the quality of the sound mixing seemed somewhat down from earlier Ninetynine gigs in Melbourne; in places, it sounded a bit muddy, with vocals and loops being at times overwhelmed by the rest of the mix.
When a band play on tour to unfamiliar audiences, it is different to gigs at home to a scene of established fans; the band only get one chance to make an impression before they move on to the next city and the next audience.

RAN: Ninetynine - The Process (2002)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Melbourne indie quartet Ninetynine are known for their trademark vibraphone-and-Casio instrumentation, their fondness for punchy, melodic 2-1/2-minute pop songs and their dynamic performances with lots of instrument swapping and other antics.
Ninetynine have ditched their trademark graph paper background and numerical album titles, and gone for a different, more polished look.
With The Process, Ninetynine transcend the kids-with-Casios garage-band stereotype and deliver a work of maturity and sophistication, and one which can be appreciated by people who don't wear fl-framed glasses.

Ninetynine sprang from the fertile music scene of Melbourne, Australia and currently includes Laura MacFarlane, Cameron Potts, and Michelle Mansford, along with a list of transient collaborators.
Ninetynine is a band that infects you with their love for life and people and music, and their uniqueness and instrumental complexity gives them staying power.

Oz Music Project - Australian Music Resource and Webzine
Ninetynine are an indie three piece from Melbourne that combine indie rock stylings with percussion and Casio keyboarding layerings.
The band starting as a solo project by Laura MacFarlane (ex-Sleater-Kinney) in 1995, Ninetynine's self-titled debut was released on the Patsy label and followed with tours in the US, New Zealand and Europe.
A band renowned for their involving and unconventional live show: all band members rotating instruments, the scatterbrained drumming of Potts and haunting vocals of MacFarlane, Ninetynine represent the higher echelon of the Melbourne indie scene.

 Ninetynine - 180° - Review - Stylus Magazine
The album itself is quite a departure from their live performance, which is nothing less than bizarre – mostly due to the antics of drummer / viola player Cameron Potts.
On the album, however, a lot of this energy is sorely missing, and it tends to fall back on the somewhat less dramatic presence of MacFarlane, whose somewhat calming vocals are almost in direct opposition to Potts’ dramatic style.
Comparisons to early Stereolab are valid, though distracting from Ninetynine’s true sound, they posses the ringing guitars, keyboard drones and somewhat monotone sugary female vocals, but lack latter-era Stereolab’s elaborate production and orchestral backing.

Ninetynine’s songs are ethereal, similar to those of the Capsules, with the exception that Laura MacFarlane - formerly of Sleater-Kinney) - possesses vocals that aren’t so nasal and annoying to listen to.
There are quality aspects of Ninetynine, such as MacFarlane's pretty voice which, when used to sing on more upbeat tracks like "4AM", "Monopoly", and "Uno" does good, not evil.
But there are also poor aspects of Ninetynine, one of them being whatever led them to record the unfortuneate "Iron Man" cover and another being that a lot of these songs are simply quite tedious to listen to.

Personally, I try to buy from the labels first, because I think that it's good to help financially support the labels/band, plus the labels usually charge less, and are more reliable, as far as what condition the album is in.

Ninetynine indeed isn't what you would expect from the band, considering their more harsh industrial (dance) presented on previous releases.
However, the same high quality of work expected by Haujobb does exist with this release, it's just of a different nature and direction -- more gentle melody, the use of female vocals serenading us, much more drum & bass movements, and definitely more minimalist overall.

 Rocknerd | Ninetynine, "The Processed"
The disc is titled The Processed, and is, as the name suggests, an album of remixes of tracks from Ninetynine's most recent album, The Process.
In summary, Processed is an interesting disc; the straight dance numbers are quite passable for the odd instance when you need a floor-filling club mix of a Ninetynine song, but the more ambient and experimental tracks really make the disc, counterpointing and riffing off Ninetynine's unconventional aesthetic.
Well, that's the tricky part; it hasn't been officially released, and there don't seem to be any plans to change this.

Haujobb's Ninetynine Remixes features nine reconfigurations of tracks from the group's Ninetynine album, casting them in a more ambient and minimalistic light.
Tracks like Haujobb's own remix of "Pulsar" and "Overflow (Red Sparrow Mix)" emphasize the percussive aspects of their music as well as their flair for creating cold, spare, yet somehow moving synth melodies.
"Overflow (Infam Remix)" and "Overflow (For a Space Remix)" reveal different aspects of the original's ethereal-dance vibe and Vanessa Briggs' vocals, while "Cutedge (60:60 Architect Remix) and "Ninetynine (S'Apexed)" take Haujobb's stark but atmospheric style to new heights.
