Ninomiya (二宮町; -machi) is a town located in Naka District, Kanagawa, Japan.
Ninomiya literally means "the second shrine" of the province.

Chuhachi Ninomiya, fourth son of a samurai and another would-be aviation trail-blazer, was at last being given a belated measure of recognition, 100 years after his first experiment in chasing the dream of manned flight.
Ninomiya was born in the port town of Yawatahama, Ehime Prefecture, on the island of Shikoku in 1866 (Wilbur Wright was born in 1867, Orville in 1871).
Ninomiya saw the military potential of his invention (the first practical use of air- craft was reconnaissance) and in 1893 created his second design, the Tamamushi type.

Ninomiya and other cluster balloonists cite as their inspiration the 1956 Academy Award-winning film "The Red Balloon," which ends with a little French boy, Pascal, transported over Paris by a bunch of candy-colored balloons.
Ninomiya, 42, a former actuary who is working on a Ph.D. in epidemiology, brought to Kansas specially designed welded gas manifolds to regulate the flow of helium into the balloons.
Ninomiya flew to his peak of 21,400 feet on Oct. 18, 1998, he did it with permission from the Los Angeles air-traffic-control center, which required him to carry an aircraft radio and transponder.

Chuhachi Ninomiya, born in Ehime Prefecture's Yawatahama loved to fly kites and as a boy he was nicknamed "Kite-flying Chuhachi." He was 24 years old when he got the idea of a "flying machine" from watching crows gliding through the air.
Ninomiya's plans and scale model for his Tamamushi flying machine were completed in 1893, the same year that Otto Lilienthal started his research into gliders that would be a text for the Wrights.
The airplane was called "Crow Type Flying Machine" and was a monoplane with a tail similar to that of a crow, 61 centimeters long and 59 centimeters wide with a three-wheel landing gear and a four-blade propeller driven by twisted rubber strings.
