Nipawin is a town located in north-east Saskatchewan, Canada on the Saskatchewan River.
Nipawin is a Cree word meaning "a bed, or resting place" which referred to a low-lying area along the river now flooded by Codette Lake where Native American women and children would camp and wait for the men to arrive from treks by canoe.
Sharon Butala, novelist, was born in Nipawin, as was former Boston Bruins enforcer Lyndon Byers.

Saskatchewan Industry and Resources is providing the Town of Nipawin with $66,000 to assist in the construction of the crossing.
The Town of Nipawin will be the legal entity, which will receive the provincial government funds and manage the money raised by the snowmobile club and area organizations to help pay for the project.
Work on the Nipawin Dam snowmobile trail is scheduled to be completed in late October 2003.

 CBC News: Driver leaves disabled man in freezing bus
NIPAWIN, SASK. - An elderly Saskatchewan man is recovering from frostbite after being left in a bus for the disabled all night on Christmas Eve.
He was taken to a Saskatoon hospital and treated for frostbite to his legs before being transferred to a hospital in Nipawin.
Nipawin's administrator, Peter Cannon, said the town contracts a driver to operate the bus, which it owns.

The consecration of newly-purchased church property was held under a tent with Bishop George Exton Lloyd presiding.
By 1928, the newly-completed church and parsonage was in use.

Nipawin has experienced an influx of aboriginal people moving into the community from area reserves, most notably Cumberland House, Red Earth, and Shoal Lake, all located east of Nipawin.
It presented many positive happenings in Nipawin not only for the target group but for those members of the community who were touched by it in some way, large or small.

Meetings were held at the homes of various members, twice a month or when it was convenient fees were set at $1.00 per meeting for each member.
