The album’s other energy-blast is “Territorial Pissings,” which is about the only song on this album that could qualify as ‘punk’ (using the clichéd definition of “fast and aggressive rock song that speeds ahead so fast you’re ruining the seat cover”).
Before the release of their sophomore album, no one predicted these scruffy guys would become one of the biggest bands in the world, selling millions of albums, selling out all the venues and leaving their mark on pop culture (remember how even all those pop acts and 80’s hair metal bands suddenly restyled themselves?).
Also on the album are the melodic “Been a Son,”; the early Nirvana-classic “Sliver,”; the exciting b-side “Aneurysm,” and, for the completists, the garagey “Spank Thru,” one of the band’s earliest songs, and the album’s only ‘unknown’ song.

The album has certainly lost none of its force -- it is simply extraordinary to listen to it from start to finish.
The album famously knocked Michael Jackson off the top of the charts, ended the reign of the metal hair bands and, for one brief, shining moment, made the world safe again for rock and roll.
Among Nirvana's contemporaries, Cobain's death made ambition unseemly, and to that degree abandoned the charts to the pop and hip-hop kids who don't share his reluctance about fame and success.

Nirvana - Nevermind Review - sputnikmusic
This album did start a revolution of grunge music and speeded up the process of hair metal dying out, that's one of the reason it is considered a classic album.
But the point about Nirvana music is really the only good album they had after this one is there live MTV album which was basically recorded when Kurt ran out of ideas.
Pink Floyd's album was a well-produced collection of songs, and Nirvana's album was an album that anyone could make in two days.

Indeed, one week after Nirvana's coup, Garth Brooks -- whose lengthy residence at the top of the charts does qualify him for phenomenon status -- had bumped Nirvana off its Number One perch and down to Number Four, and Jackson had already climbed back to Number Two.
An album that goes to Number One and then falls off the Top 200 two or three months later may not sell as many records as an album that goes to Number Thirty and stays there for six months.

Unfortunately, about half of this album is subpar and simply should have remained in the vaults, making Cobain come off as a bit of a hypocrite, what with his haughty album essay and previous slagging of Pearl Jam’s alleged “corporate” rock.
Although I prefer almost all of the original versions of the Nirvana songs, the ones that are noticeably different from their album versions, such as “Come As You Are,” “Pennyroyal Tea,” and "All Apologies," are all moderately successful on their own terms.
The other Nirvana originals are enjoyable but offer nothing new, since they’re mellow songs to begin with and are faithful to the original album versions.

Few albums have occupied the cultural consciousness like this one; of its 12 songs, roughly 10 are now standards.
Some of these songs sound better on the band's live albums, and even "In Utero" was just as good as "Nevermind" (despite what some say), and even those two albums put together could not equal "Unplugged In New York"; but this still stands as a landmark for not only rock, but music in general.
Nirvana themselves were always quick to give credit to their influences which included The Ramones, Meat Puppets, Husker Du, and The Vasolines.

Nevermind was never meant to change the world, but you can never predict when the zeitgeist will hit, and Nirvana's second album turned out to be the place where alternative rock crashed into the mainstream.
This wasn't entirely an accident, either, since Nirvana did sign with a major label, and they did release a record with a shiny surface, no matter how humongous the guitars sounded.
And, yes, Nevermind is probably a little shinier than it should be, positively glistening with echo and fuzz-box distortion, especially when compared with the fl-and-white murk of Bleach.

This is actually the first album ive ever brought by Nirvana which most of u mind consider strange coz BLEACH is not the first thing people usually start their musical Nirvana-journey-thingy with.
i also love their greatest hits, which fair enough, doesnt really constitute as a 'new' album, and i avoided listening to 'bleach' coz i didnt recognize many of the songs on it, and debut albums generally arent the best because bands mature and stuff, but i was wrong.
