Nissan was well aware of the aversion to minivans among drivers, who like the people- and cargo-carrying capacity, but not the dull "Mom's Taxi" image.
Nissan provides a sack to store the three headrests in, along with a hook to hang it in the rear cargo area, but it is an inconvenience.
Regarding the third-row headrests, a Nissan employee said the company anticipated a headrest design that didn't have to be removed to stow the seat would eventually be banned in the U.S. because regulators may think they would often be left in the down position, making them ineffective.

Any 2004 Nissan Quest is well equipped with the basics that most folks have to come to expect on a modern automobile, but to access luxury fittings and cutting edge technology, Nissan forces consumers to ante up for the mid-grade 3.5 SL or the range-topping 3.5 SE.
In terms of driving, it is possible that the 2004 Nissan Quest serves as the new benchmark from a dynamic perspective.
Our test Quest had loose trim along the base of the windshield, the sunglass holder’s foam liner kept hanging up when we opened it, the plastic glovebox door was warped, the fuse box cover was loose and fit poorly, and the driver’s airbag cover wasn’t tightly affixed.

Ever since Nissan rolled its latest Quest onto a turntable at the Detroit auto show in January, enthusiastic drivers whose lot in life demands their vehicles accommodate seven souls have been hoping maybe this was The One, a minivan inside which beats the heart of a sports car.
It's clearly styled in a similarly striking hey-look-at-me vein with its broad wheels-at-the-corners stance and exaggerated headlamps and taillights connected by an arching roofline.

However, among those four, the Quest has the lowest ranking of "predicted reliability." In that category, the Sienna and MPV are ranked "Excellent"--the highest rating--and the Odyssey is ranked "Very good"--the second highest--but the Quest is ranked just "Good"--the third highest.
Nissan has a long way to go to catch Honda's and Toyota's minivan sales: Total Odyssey sales in the U.S. from same period, July 2003 through September 2004, were 188,545; total Sienna sales in the U.S., again for the same period: 185,356.

Call the Nissan Quest 'Revenge of the Minivan,' part deux. | csmonitor.com
Call it Revenge of the Minivan, part deux, as Nissan's Quest - one of the cubic-feet leaders - enters the second model year of an avant-garde design that could help some space-craving car shoppers shake off SUV fascination, delivering all that hauling capacity (about 150 cubic feet) at a relatively wallet-friendly 25 m.p.g.
The Japanese automaker joined with Renault in developing Quest for 2004 - and the van still hints at a Gallic school of design: Rear wheels are shoved back near the corners in the tradition of Renault's old Le Car.
Any shortcomings in interior feel - you put Quest in gear with a plastic joystick - are outweighed by such amenities as four rear "skylights" and a rear bay that yawns wide at the touch of a button, like a space station's cargo bay.

The latest version, the first to be built by Nissan — the last-generation Quest was a joint venture with Ford Motor Co. — convincingly dispels the notion that minivans are for wimps or for those “married with children.”
But Nissan prefers its minivan be compared to an urban loft — funky, sexy, modern and configurable.
And although this minivan is designed for parents in denial, many editors appreciated the standard convenience features, including plenty of hooks and even a note clip on the steering column — perfect for to-do lists or a photo of the little one.
