We bought a JDM engine with 35-45K miles on it for our project 1989 Maxima on eBay, it was $464 including shipping from Florida with a 6 month warranty.
I noticed a VE engine sell the other day for a little over $750 including free shipping.
I know we could do a much better job than pacesetter, our Y pipes on the VG are out-performing the pacesetter headers by about 10-11hp now.

Apply engine oil to the camshaft oil seal and install it in place.
On all engines except VG, replace the thrust plate.
On the VG engine, select the thickness of a cam locating plate that will bring the end-play within specifications.

...so the KA and VG engines should be interchangeable in the pickups provided you remove or mount the brackets that came with the I4 or V6.
while reading on z31.com, I read about a swap from a NA to Turbo VG in a Z31 300zx and apparently the engine mounts are slightly different since nissan had to accomodate the turbo.
Some that come to mind are the aluminum block DOHC V6 Isuzu Trooper engine coupled to a 2wd 5spd, Mazda 929 DOHC V6 coupled to a P/U 5spd, a Volvo 2.3FT 4cyl (don't laugh, have you driven one?) M/T, etc.

A testiment to Nissan reliability, but it was just plain time for a new car.
2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE that I miss...It didn't have any of the annoying rattles that my MO has....Luckily I gave it to my dad, so if my MO is bought back I might take my PF back until I can decide on something else....
Had all the engine mods it could have for a NA motor--ECU, intake, exhuast, etc. I would post a pic of it but I'm at work and don't have it here...
