	Z-car - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The first two generations (240Z/260Z/280Z and 280ZX) of Z-car were powered by a Straight-6, (part of the L-series of Nissan engines, which powered most of their vehicles until the early 1980s) with a displacement of 2.4 L in the first incarnation, and increasing to 2.6 L and 2.8 L in the 260Z, and the 280Z and ZX, respectively.
		Nissan has managed to salvage the reputation of the Z-car with the 350Z, however, which is known for its speed and handling, and not just its good looks.
		In the 2003 model year, Nissan reentered the US sports-car market with the 350Z, powered by a 3.5 L V6, and styled in an attempt to create a more modern interpretation of the 240Z's lines.

		Nissan today revealed a new, near-production ready ZÒ sports car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, just two years after the first Z Concept vehicle was rushed onto the North American auto show circuit as an initial styling and feasibility study.
		The new Nissan Z, which is scheduled to go on sale in the United States and Canada in mid-2002 as a 2003 model, is designed to be as revolutionary as the original Datsun 240Z was when it was introduced more than 30 years earlier.
		The Z’s cockpit clearly establishes the car as an intimate two-seater with a small greenhouse and a squared-off rear window treatment reminiscent of the 240Z.

		The Vintage Z-Cars program now sells these restored cars through 10 authorized Z Stores (see list), Nissan dealers that are interested in the program and have earned the privilege through high Z-car sales back when the car was available new.
		Price for a Vintage Z is $27,495, quite a bit more than the $3526 sticker price the car carried 26 years ago.

	My Nissan 350Z
		Nissan says they want the Z to have sports car-like handling but also retain a smooth ride like a touring car.
		The 350Z utilizes Nissan's new FM (front midship) platform meaning the engine sits behind the front wheel axle thus technically making the Z a mid-ship engine car just like the Acura NSX and Toyota MR2.

		Back-to-basics is the name of the game when it comes to sports cars, and for Nissan, it means a return to more of a performance orientation during the development of the next generation Z-car.
		Nissan engineers begin work on a prototype, which would become the 240-Z. The 240-Z goes on sale in the U.S. on October 22, 1969.
		The engine displacement of the 1974 model is increased to 2.6 liters, and the car is renamed the 260-Z. Due to stricter emissions requirements, horsepower is down to 139.

		I have had and continue to have a love affair with the Datsun Z Car, as I have owned over 200 of the early 240Z's, but Brian Long's Book on the 280ZX to the 300ZX, gave me a greater appreciation for the car and the history behind it.
