Nissan KA engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The KA engine is a 2.0 L (1998 cc) or 2.4 L (2388 cc) straight-4 piston engine from Nissan.
The KA24E was a SOHC 3-valve engine produced from July, 1988 through January, 1996.
The KA24DE is a basic DOHC 4-valve engine producing 140 to 155 hp(104 to 115 kW) and 154 to 160 ft·lb (208 to 216 Nm) at the flywheel.

Encyclopedia: Straight 4   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Usually found in 4 and 6 cylinder configurations, the straight engine (often designed as inline engine) is an internal-combustion engine with all cylinders aligned in one row, with no or only minimal offset.
A straight engine is considerably easier to build than an otherwise equivalent horizontally opposed or V engine because the cylinder bank can be milled from a single metal casting and it requires fewer cylinder heads and camshafts.
The straight-4 engine is not a balanced configuration and while this is tolerable in a small, low-displacement, low-power configuration the vibrations get worse with increasing size and power.

Nissan 240SX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nissan 240SX was a car introduced to the North American market by Nissan in 1989 and sold there until 1998.
The 240SX was equipped with a 2.4 L inline 4 engine (KA24E from 1989–1990 and KA24DE from 1991–1998).
The Nissan KA24E engine, while durable, was a heavy, iron-block unit that produced meager power for its size, with only slight improvement when upgraded to the DOHC version.

SR20DET vs. KA24DE - Asian Imports - Car Forum Archives
Yes, the KA is the Nissan engine they place in a Silvia and called it a 240SX.
I agree, The SR20 is an awsome engine.
Ka is a good engine, the only reason why it doesnt make the amount of horses like the sr does, is because of the stroke, its just too much compression for that little engine to be turbocharged, granite if it was brought to the full potential, it would be a fine engine.

The KA24E engine is a 12-valve, 4-cylinder engine.
Service parts for these engines, as well as the original equipment parts for later engines, are made of longer-lasting steel.
The KA-series engines aren't known for being silky-smooth; they're the workhorses of Nissan's 4-cylinder lineup.

 Nissan KA engine - Datsun
The Nissan KA series of engines includes both a SOHC 12-valve and a DOHC 16-valve version of a 2.4 L inline 4-cylinder.
It is the direct descendent of the Nissan Z and L series of engines.
The cylinder head and timing cover of the KA engines shares the same bolt pattern as the Z and L series engines which makes the 12-valve head a virtual bolt on for these earlier engine blocks.

SR20DET Wiring, so far what i know. is this right??
Take out my ka ecu, put in the sr ecu using it's plug and i match for example, the "Water Temp Sensor input" wire from the harness with the "Water Temp Sensor input" on the ecu.
Then once i've done that with all the wires i take the "Water Temp Sensor input" wire on the ka engine harnes plug and attach it to the "Water Temp Sensor input" wire on the sr plug.
as you take out your ka engine, you should be able to put the sr back in there the same way, and pipe everything up (hoses, pipes, exhaust, etc).

Damn they should let all the nissan 4cylinders battle it out in a class that would be the shit.
From what I have read you could use the oem KA mounts in a 510 if your using the KA engine with little fabrication.
For the KA engine mounts they can be used with very minimal fabrication.

Bryan Feldman (http://www.bryanf.com) has written extensively about his many rotary swaps, but mine is quite simple compared to the major surgery he does to mount the engine to the original cross member.

DRIFTING.com - why do Datsun 510 owners exploit the 240sx engine better than acutal 240 owners?
however i think all engines are great and it comes down to personal preference, i've said time and time again im sure its very possible to with some cam and head work get a really nice NA ka24 engine making in the area that you want.
An example of an easy swap would be the KA into the 510, but even then you have to fabricate new motor mounts, cut apart the oil pan to a rear sump since the location of the oil pan will hit the steering rack.
KA's take money to build and tune as others have pointed out they were designed for mid range power.

The Turbonator allows your engine to burn fuel more fully and efficiently, resulting in MPG gains as high as 31%*.
The Turbonator's fins are engineered to improve combustion without restricting airflow.
Because the fins do not intersect in the middle of the hose, air is allowed to flow freely into the engine.

Modern engines MUST be kept clean and free of deposits.Total Deposit Control has to be a priority for drivers who demand top performance and trouble-free operation of their vehicles.
The small, high output engines in sport compact cars are lively, responsive and fun to drive, but the fine tuning and close tolerances of modern, high efficiency, high-reving engines render them increasingly sensitive to even small amounts of deposit buildup in critical areas of the engine.
This break-down creates the formation of sludge, varnish and other harmful engine deposits which cause premature engine wear and drastically reduce performance and throttle response.

I have received much negative feedback from other fellow 240SX owners insisting I am working for a lost cause and that the SOHC KA motor will never be as strong, and powerful as the other turbocharged four cylinder motors in the Nissan family.
Of course, I will never be the world's fastest Nissan or even the fastest turbocharged 240SX, that is not my goal.
My goal is to build a street car that can pass state inspections (and perhaps even the strict Cali song standards) and yet have a SOHC KA that will give even the fastest competitors at the 1/4 mile track second thoughts.
