The Nistru war veterans demand the resignation of the communist authorities for their failure to meet at least one plea from former combatants.
Eduard Maican, chairman of the National Union of Nistru War Veterans (UNPRT), said at a press conference on Monday that the government was short of keeping word to prepare a law for war veterans, to create conditions for recovery of veterans and to assist their families.
"The Nistru veterans living in that building and summoned by the court to leave it shall not abandoned their new apartments because they do not seek dwelling space, but they protest against the indifference of the current regime," the UNPRT chairman stressed.

Bessarabia, the land between the Prut and the Nistru rivers, is predominantly ethnic Romanian in population and constitutes the eastern half of a region historically known as Moldova.
Temporarily, the land between the Prut and Nistru Rivers fell under control of the Bulgarian Empire, the Magyars, the Pechenegs, and the Golden Horde (Mongols).

The Transnistrian self-proclaimed authorities consider the territory to the left of river Nistru to be illegitimately appropriated and placed under administrative control of Moldovan authorities.
The territory between rivers Nistru and Prut (Bessarabia, or in Romanian – Basarabia, currently roughly the territory of the Republic of Moldova) has historically been a part of a larger Moldova – a Moldova that encompassed a large territory in the east of what is nowadays Romania.
Thus the Russian Empire obtained the territory east of Nistru (current Transnistria - which had a majority of Moldovans with yet a large nomad Tatar population) and Bessarabia (current territory between Nistru and Prut – the Republic of Moldova).
