Nitmiluk National Park which is in the Northern Territory of Australia, 244 km southeast of Darwin, has been established around a series of gorges on the Katherine River and Edith Falls.
These gorges and the surrounding landscape have great ceremonial significance to the local Jawoyn people, who are custodians of Nitmiluk National Park.
Information displays are set up that explain the geology, landscape and aboriginal history of the National Park.

We arrived at Nitmiluk national park early (because the clock in the Little Motley was still set to Queensland time) and spent some time in the interpretive centre.
The laundry in the caravan park were full and queueing by 7.30 am so we went to a laundromat in town.
This land has belonged to the Jawoyn (pronounced jar won) people since the resolution of their Aboriginal land rights claim in 1989 and the park is run by a board which has a majority of Jawoyn people on it.
