The Nitra Region (Slovak: Nitriansky kraj) is one of the administrative regions of Slovakia.
This region with a long history is situated in the southwest of Slovakia, mostly in the eastern part of the Danubian Lowland.

In the period 1990-1995 in four regions of the SR (former territorial-administrative division) the pupil-teacher ratios in public primary schools ranged from 15,80 in West Slovak region in 1995 to 19,48 in Bratislava region in 1990.
In 1996-1997 in eight regions of the SR the lowest repetition rate for grades 1-5 was 0.7% in Trencín region in 1997 and the highest - 4.7% - in Košice region in 1996.
In West Slovak region the opposite trend was noted - a rise in the coefficient of efficiency of pupils of grades 5 from 97.0% in 1990 to 100.3% n 1995.

The Upper Nitra region is the name of a territory covering the area of two districts - the District of Prievidza and partly the District of Topolcany.
The region is not defined in the administrative structure of the Slovak Republic and in the project, the term will be used synonymously with the District of Prievidza, which is one of 38 administrative districts in the Slovak Republic.
The project was launched in the region in December 1994, with a meeting of mayors of the towns of Prievidza, Handlova, Bojnice and Novaky.
