  About Nitromethanol, and/or RC Fuel
Nitromethane is used as a solvent in the industry.
When running large ammounts of Nitromethane (for instance in a full-sized top-fuel drag race car), the use of a proper gas mask is essential.
The ammounts of Nitromethane used in model race cars are generally much lower, both due to mixture (25% in stead of 99%), and fuel usage (150cc in a few nminutes stead of a several-gallon tank in a few seconds).

In fact, there is not enough time to burn all of the nitromethane between when the spark plug fires and when the exhaust valve opens.

 CH3NO2 - NITROMETHANE
The oxygen in the molecular structure of nitromethane enables it to burn with much less atmospheric oxygen in comparison to hydrocarbons such as gasoline.
This would indicate that it with nitromethane is possible to generate about 2.3 times the power of gasoline.
This is partly because nitromethane can provide power even in the absence of atmospheric oxygen, as described above, but it's also because nitromethane tends to produce severe knock and pre-ignition.

Nitromethane is the fuel of choice for Top Fuels and other high power dragsters and engines of radio controlled racing vehicles.
Nitromethane also needs lot of energy to vaporise so it increase volumetric efficiency but is also very hard to ignite and burn slow, if you take a look on a top fuel dragster it has two spark plugs per cylinder driven with very powerful magnetoes.

The R/C Aircraft Proving Grounds - Nitromethane, the Mystery Ingredient?
Nitromethane is just one of a family of chemicals called "nitroparaffins." Others are nitroethane and 1-nitropropane and 2-nitropropane.
(Top fuel drag racers, which generally run on straight nitromethane, sometimes add a little in hot, humid weather to prevent detonation.) At one time, nitroethane was only about half as expensive as nitromethane, but its cost now is so nearly the same, using it to lower cost is hardly worth the trouble.
