Nitrox is simply air in which the partial pressure of oxygen has been increased beyond the 21% normally found in air.
Nitrox is created either through the addition of pure oxygen to the mixture, or the subtraction of nitrogen with a membrane system.
Nitrox diving has many advantages: absorption of less nitrogen into the bloodstream and body tissues, reduced risk of decompression illness for equivalent profiles, and less post-dive fatigue (especially useful on liveaboards!).

Hyperoxic nitrox is EANx, and normoxic nitrox is basically air, 21% of oxygen and 79% of nitrogen.
In 1995 PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) took nitrox training as a part of it's training program, and the course certifies diver to dive nitrox dives within the recreational limits and with blends of 22%-40% of oxygen.

New Jersey Scuba Diver - Dive Gear & Training - Nitrox and Air
Using your old air computer with Nitrox may lend a degree of safety, but it is mainly just a waste of expensive gas, and under certain conditions (diving near the depth limits of your mix) could expose you to oxygen poisoning.
Nitrox is also often credited with preventing post-dive headaches, leading to its nickname: "the feel-good gas" (also: "geezer-gas").
The Nitrox course can help you get a better handle on decompression theory, and having a better understanding of what is actually going on will make you a safer diver, whether or not you actually use the silly stuff.

 Fish 'n Fins - Nitrox
Nitrox, or Enriched Air, is a mixture of air with less nitrogen and more oxygen than the normal air we breathe from our scuba tanks.
NITROX is available in mixtures of 32% oxygen, 36% oxygen and 40% oxygen.
This higher oxygen percentage and lower nitrogen percentage in the air means that there is less nitrogen dissolved into the bloodstream of a Nitrox user at the same time and depth as someone breathing normal air.

 Nitrox Network
In point of fact, nearly 20 years had to pass, until Nitrox could finally be established as an alternative to breathing gas in recreational diving.
But now they are gone, the times of discussions and ponderings, whether and how Nitrox could be used intelligently, which conditions must be created, so Nitrox can be accepted by the divers etc. All these questions were answered not by experts and specialists of the diving industry, but by the diver himself.
Nitrox Network is a still young platform; therefore give it some time to grow.
