NITZER EBB have returned from a three year break and released a new album, entitled "BIG HIT".
Never a band to play it safe or be swayed by passing fads and fashions, NITZER EBB have taken their electro-rage as far as it can go, tired of its rigid limitations and cast around for an alternative.
Containing ten magnificent tracks ranging from the brilliant fiery adrenalin bursts of "Kick It" and the hedonistic frenzy of "Border Talk", to the wistful and haunting "Boy", "BIG HIT" marks the vast, powerful, passionate return of Nitzer Ebb and is proof of a major and significant band on the rise, still growing.

 NITZER EBB
With an unusual name, Teutonic beats and aggressive sound, it is often assumed that Nitzer Ebb originated within the German techno scene, but the truth of the matter is that this trio hailed from the UK, Chelmsford in Essex to be precise.
From staging small shows in their local area, Nitzer Ebb's infectious mix of pounding beats, militaristic imagery, angst and anger was soon filling alternative dancefloors across the UK, leading to live dates in London where the group caught the attention of PWL producer Phil Harding.
By the time Nitzer Ebb released "Ebbhead" (1991) even a previously reluctant music press were warming to their sound.

Bio: Before the majority of industrial acts added guitars and became the heavy metal of the 1990s, Nitzer Ebb produced hard-hitting electronic music with the Teutonic bent and abrasive edge of early industrial music, plus the vocal chanting and beat-heavy flavor of the late-'80s alternative and Balearic dance scene.
Three more singles followed during 1985-1986 before Nitzer Ebb signed to Mute in late 1986; the first Mute recordings were the singles "Murderous" and "Let Your Body Learn" in early 1987, just before the release of their debut album, That Total Age.
Nitzer Ebb virtually disappeared from active music-making for the next four years, finally reappearing in 1995 with their fifth album, Big Hit.

NITZER EBB - Body Of Work
However, Nitzer Ebb remained on the periphery of even the exploding industrial scene, although they seemed to be embraced by virtually everyone in the clubs by the time their debut album, That Total Age, had surfaced in 1987.
The Nitzer Ebb style was very much one of mesmerising mechanical sequences and hard beats, mixed with addictive, anthemic vocal chants – perfect for the dancefloor, even more so as an alternative to the vile synthpop dance tat that was plaguing Europe.
They did and they’ve been badly missed – Nitzer Ebb would have taken today’s technology and wrapped it around their songwriting, far from the way in which so many of their contemporaries have lazily abused it.

 Mute.com: Nitzer Ebb: Biography
Nitzer Ebb's debut album, 1987's brooding 'That Total Age', displayed a brutalist yet polished élan.
Any suggestion though that the Ebb were somehow softening up were blown away by the full on pulverising assault of 'Godhead', an assault that had by now successfully overcome audiences in the US.
The diverse and experimental nature of the band was still there, and in the lead-off single 'Kick It', the Ebb showed that they could still easily conjure up those moments that would batter the listener into submission yet make it a strangely rewarding process at the same time.

And of course there have been subsequent remixes of Nitzer Ebb songs by none other than the godfather of techno Derrick May along with European techno luminaries The Hacker and Terrence Fixmer, with whom Nitzer Ebb vocalist Douglas McCarthy has worked under the name Fixmer/McCarthy for several years since NE split in 1995.
About the ranks of producers drawn toward the Nitzer Ebb sound, Douglas was diplomatic: “There’s always a sound, kind of the hip sound that people just kind of drift to at any period of time, especially with electronic music.
Additionally, Nitzer Ebb themselves aren’t unwilling to look back at their own career, as McCarthy eagerly talked about the upcoming performance.

By the time of their second album, Belief, Gooday had disappeared (to be replaced by Julian Beeston) and Flood had taken over the producer's role from Harding, nudging Nitzer Ebb closer to the dancefloor and shearing away the militaristic bent of much of their earlier recordings.
The following year's Ebbhead further consolidated their position with alternative audiences, with at least two well-known singles, "I Give to You" and "Godhead." As a whole, though, the album showed Nitzer Ebb a bit confused as to where industrial music was going.

"Nitzer Ebb" (pronounced ''night-zer'' or ''nit-zer''—the band themselves pronounce it either way) is a music group formed in 1982 by Essex schoolfriends Douglas McCarthy (vocals, synthesizer), Vaughan (Bon) Harris on synthesizers and drums, and David Gooday.
The trio began with shows in small local venues, but their arresting stage presence, military image and energy garnered a growing base of followers and soon led to appearances in larger clubs and concert venues.
Nitzer Ebb had also found favour with labelmates and international pop heavyweights Depeche Mode, who invited them on their European tour in 1988, and in 1990, opening on the World Violation Tour in the US.
