NIZAMABAD: Founder president of the Nizamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry P. Somani has urged the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, to introduce immediately the Nanded-Secunderabad (via Nizamabad) link express and extend the Tirupati-Secunderabad Express up to Nizamabad as promised in the Railway Budget 2005-06.
In a letter addressed to the Railway Minister and which was released to the media here on Saturday, he said the Nanded-Secunderabad Express was yet to be introduced and the Krishna Express, though started sometime ago, was discontinued for poor response due to add time and day journey for a longer distance.
He also wanted the Nanded-Bangalore link Express train, 6593, to be routed through Nizamabad instead of Wadi so as to reduce the distance by 144 km between the two places.

Addressing a well attended public meeting of beedi workers at the Government Polytechnic College grounds here, JAC senior leader V. Krishna felt the new G.O. was detrimental to the beedi industry on which over 1.50 crore people depended directly or indirectly in the country.
If the units were closed down lakhs of workers (3 lakhs in Nizamabad alone) would be rendered jobless, he said.

The Nizamabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Ravi Shanker Iyenar told newsmen in Nizamabad on Sunday that Ashiq Ali was arrested on Saturday night on a tip-off about his suspicious movements.
The Nizamabad SP said that Ashiq Ali reached Nizamabad on Saturday, which the police got wind of and were able to nab him.
