NOLS and Primal Quest Join Forces
NOLS' risk management and leadership skills are an invaluable asset that can be incorporated immediately into future Primal Quest events," said Primal Quest CEO, Rich Brazeau, "The relationship will also offer our volunteers and staff a unique opportunity to discover the renowned backcountry curriculum provided by NOLS around the world."
NOLS founder Paul Petzoldt's idea was simple: take people into the wilderness for an extended period of time, teach them the right things, feed them well and when they walk out of the mountains, they will be skilled leaders.
That is the backbone of every NOLS course and today the school is widely recognized as the world's authority in the extended expedition and outdoor leadership.

NOLS is very serious about not only bringing dedicated lightweight courses into their curriculum, like the one above, but also infecting the entire NOLS course program with lightweight philosophy.
It's important for organizations like NOLS to see what is possible with a light pack and light gear, in spite of the fact that this gear may be wholly inappropriate for their purpose.
The best NOLS instructors will be the ones that are able to confidently impart a lightweight curriculum to their students because they will have taken ultralight gear to the edge, and experienced its failure themselves.

 Get Maximum Use From NOLs
Conceptually, the notion of an NOL is relatively straightforward.
If the NOL is not fully absorbed in the carryback or carryover year, the taxpayer must then carry it over to the next earliest tax year.
Under the AMT rules, use of an NOL is limited to 90% of a taxpayer’s income (after the taxpayer has modified the NOL for the adjustments under IRC sections 56 and 57 and preference items under section 58).

In this case, youÕd be smarter to waive the carryback period and carry forward the NOL to years in which you can use it to reduce income that otherwise would be taxed at the higher percentage.
For example, a taxpayer might be better off electing the two-year carryback instead of the five-year carryback for a 2002 NOL if its 2000 and 2001 income was substantially higher than its 1997, 1998 and 1999 income, and the NOL isnÕt big enough to offset all five years of taxable income.
The truth is, NOLs have always been a good way for companies to cope with the inevitable ups and downs of doing business.
