It was transferred to No 4 Group on 1 June 1945 and disbanded by being redesignated No 1381 (Transport) Conversion Unit on 10 August 1945.
No 4 (C) OTU on 13 February 1945 and with the withdrawal of Catalinas from RAF service, the unit was disbanded on 28 June 1945.
No 223 Group on 15 January 1943 and the unit disbanded into No 151 OTU on 12 March 1944.

 RAF History - Bomber Command 60th Anniversary
152 aircraft - 111 Wellingtons, 19 Hampdens, 15 Stirlings, 7 Manchesters.
No aircraft were lost although crews reported that Rostock's Flak defences had been strengthened.
Post-raid photographs reported 'no new damage' but the Kiel records show that damage was caused at all 3 shipyards, to the hospital of the Naval Academy and to the university library as well as to private housing.

 Usworth Aerodrome (Sunderland) - History
No. 607 squadrons pilots and groundcrew came from all walks of life locally and were trained by a nucleus of regular RAF NCO's and airmen of various trades, and had two Qualified Flying Instructors with them, a Flt Lt Manton, and Flying Officer Turner.
Usworth proved to be inadequate for the rapid growth of No 62 OTU and the sparse living accommodation was stretched to the limit, and the installations of a balloon barrage at Sunderland was the final straw.
RAF Waddington gave the Airport authorities 48 hours notice to organise fire-cover, the local brigade providing 4 appliances to supplement the 2 airport tenders, plus an ambulance to comply with the RAF's conditions for landing.

 RAF Hurricanes in Russia
The RAF casualty was Sgt N. Smith who was seen to have suffered damage behind the cockpit.
He was to be one of only two RAF pilots to be killed in action during WWII whilst operating from Russian soil and was buried in 'Cemetery of Soviet Heroes', overlooking Murmansk Sound.
The Hurricane Z5252 was devoid of RAF markings and instead had been painted over with Russian stars and the number '01' painted on the side.

Margo is now 92 and has had no contact with her family for many years.
I alo have no contact with my mum's side now due to a number of reasons.
she was adopted at 6 weeks old her birth date is 30th april 1963 i only no her name before adoption, we think she was adopted on the outskirts of bristol, please if any one has any info we would be extrememly grateful.

 CHAPTER 10 Increasing New Zealand Participation— Formation of Nos. 485,488, and 489 Squadrons | NZETC
No question arose over the control of training in Australia or New Zealand; in each case men were to be trained in schools belonging to the Dominion and the training was to be run by the Dominion air force concerned, with help from the United Kingdom by the loan of officers and men as required.
Both units were to win distinction, No. 486 in the shooting down of flying bombs launched against southern England in the middle of 1944, and No. 487 Squadron in its sorties over the Continent with the Tactical Air Force.
The last of the New Zealand squadrons, No. 490, was formed in West Africa early in 1943 and was to do valuable work in convoy protection and anti-submarine patrols in that area.

P9386/QV-K Sqn Ldr B Lane, 19 Sqn RAF This Limited Edition "Battle Scarred" model represents the Spitfire of Sqn.
He was flying this aircraft when he shot down a Bf110 near North Weald on 7th September and two days later whilst in the hands of Flight Lt. Peter Lawson, QV-K shot down another 110.
After a brief spell with 152 Squadron P9386 went to No.58 Operational Training Unit in 1941 and continued in its support role until being written off in a training accident with 57 OTU in May 1944.

 No.7 Squadron, Indian Air Force "The Battleaxes" 
After W/T course at Bombay and Operational Training at 152 OTU in Peshawar, the unit acquired its first aircraft on 20 April 1943 at Phaphamau, near Allahabad.
No losses occurred, but on 1 Dec 47, Fg Offr UA D'Cruz was shot down and taken prisoner when his Harvard was shot down by ground fire.
No offensive sorties were called upon by the government which had decided that the IAF's role should be limited only to Supply and Casuality evacuation.

 SMALE, Sergeant John Leonard (R112604) - Distinguished Flying Medal - No
  No citation other than "completed...numerous operations against the enemy in the course of which [he has] invariably displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion to duty."  Public Records Office Air 2/8831 has recommendation dated 20 November 1944 when he had flown 34 sorties (148 hours 59 minutes), 22 May to 16 November 1944.
  No citation other than "completed...numerous operations against the enemy in the course of which [he has] invariably displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion to duty."  Public Records Office Air 2/9038 has recommendation dated 17 October 1944 when he had flown 21 sorties (102 hours 15 minutes).
Flying Officer Smith has proved himself to be an outstanding member of a gallant crew and under a calm and quiet manner has shown determination, skill and great devotion to duty.

His crew were RAF except for his rear gunner who was an American.
Joined the RAF at the start of WWII and was assigned to a Dakota Squadron flying the "Hump" between Burma and China.
During World War Two, Willie Mcknight of 242 "Canadian" RAF Hurricane Squadron (in 1940) painted his aircraft (nose art) with a skull which appeared on both sides of the pilot fuselage.

Ldr Brian Lane was the Officer Commanding No.19 Squadron, based at Fowlmere in September 1940 and was flying this aircraft when he shot down a Messerschmitt Bf.110 of Stab II./ZG 2 near North Weald on 7th September.
After a brief period with No.152 Sqn., the Spitfire went to No. 58 OTU in 1941, and continued to perform second-line tasks with No.57 OTU.

 RAF Squadron Codes - WWII
During WWII, the RAF used three-letter codes to identify their aircraft from a distance.
Two large letters were painted before the roundel, which signified the squadron to which the aircraft belonged, and another letter was painted after the roundel which indicated the individual aircraft.
