Four squadrons of Swordfish in all were attached to Coastal Command and put to every task for which they were capable: mine-laying, bombing of naval and ground targets, spotting, and reconnaissance.
The last operational squadron was disbanded on 21 May 1945, shortly after the fall of Germany, and the last training squadron was disbanded in the summer of 1946.
FAA Albacores remained in service in second-line squadrons in Africa and the Middle East for the rest of the war.

The second in command of a squadron was known as the senior pilot, and there was usually a senior observer as well, both of whom would usually be lieutenants.
Squadrons were divided into flights, and for those squadrons providing aircraft for the MAC-ships or catapult flights, there could be an extremely large number of flights, all given a suffix letter.
On 30/03, the squadron transferred for one of two temporary spells aboard Victorious and on 03/04 it shared ten hits with 830 Squadron during a dive bombing attack on the Tirpitz in Norway.

This one is the first of these and it has to be said the detailing, attention to detail and finish is first rate the airframe being superbly recreated, as too the markings, undercarriage and ordnance consisting of rockets.
Its distinctive design features were a sharp delta wing, matched by a canopy that must have been very constraining due to its angular shape and like the modern F-117 it was a clean aircraft until such time that the missiles had to be launched when they would be despatched from their respective internal ordnance bays.
This features an aircraft from No. 87 Squadron in 1942 and it has to be said that the detailing of the airframe is on parr with many of its rivals, the ribbed fuselage and access panels upon the wings being points of note.

About 10 min after takeoff, crew reported an emergency (the no. 2 engine had shut down due to a thrust reverser not locked tight) and attempted to return to Dover.
Cause is believed to be uncommanded unlocking of thrust reverser on No. 2 engine, although crew was able to shut engine down before thrust reverser actually deployed, aircraft was flying too slowly and selection of 40-degree flap led to uncommanded sink and contact with the ground.
After No. 2 engine was shut down following a thrust reverser not locked indication light, crew continued to manipulate its throttle while leaving the fully-funcional no 3 engine in idle, on final approach this and improper flap setting caused a stall.
