 RAF History - Bomber Command 60th Anniversary
A few regular No 8 Group Mosquitos were also used to drop markers by Oboe to provide a first indication of the target's location for the main No 5 Group marking force.
The initial marking by No 617 Squadron Mosquitos was accurate but many of the main force of bombers did not bomb these, partly because of a thin layer of cloud which hampered visibility and partly because of faulty communications between the various bomber controllers.
The aircraft of one of the Master Bombers, Wing Commander AGS Cousens of No 635 Squadron, was shot down; Wing Commander Cousens was killed.

Bing was an enthusiastic supporter of the Wing and the Association, having served as Eastern Regional Vice-president and could be counted on for delegate activity at conventions.
The Wing extend their sincere sympathy to Geraldene and family and he will be sadly missed.
For many years, 410 Wing has been the recipient of the Sid Pougnet Award which ws donated by the late Sid Pougnet to be awarded to the annual Member of the Year each June.

The Wing moved to Akyab Main on 13 May 1945 and by the next month had been transferred to No 232 Group.
15 July saw the arrival of No 298 Squadron (Halifaxes) from the UK and in mid August the Wing was transferred to AHQ Burma and moved to Mingaladon.
Further movements included No 10 and 232 Squadrons arriving in September but No 10 Squadron left on 4 October and No 98 on 9 December.

 Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress - USA
Twenty B-17Cs were delivered to the RAF as Fortress Is, which quickly showed that defensive armament was inadequate, (the B-17C carried seven 50-cal. machine-guns) and at high altitude raids of 30,000 ft. (9,144 m), the defensive guns froze up, when they tried to fire them.
US bombing in Europe reached its high point in February 1945 with a 1,000-bomber raid on Berlin, escorted by 400 fighters, and the Dresden raid (alongside RAF Lancasters) which, caused a massive fire storm to sweep the city.
Meanwhile, B-17s were also helping to win the war against Japan, although by mid-1943 the larger Boeing B-29 had begun to take over the major strategic bombing missions in the Pacific theater.
