101 Squadron reformed at Brize Norton on May 1, 1984, it previously operated the Avro Vulcan and paricipated in the Operation Blackbuck missions of the Falklands War.
On October 14 2005 10 Squadron was disbanded, the aircrew and aircraft were merged with 101 Squadron.
RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, about 50 miles west of London, England, United Kingdom, is the largest airbase of the Royal Air Force.

In June 1951, No. 101 became the RAF's first jet-bomber squadron when it received Canberras, and it was with this aircraft that the squadron was involved in operations in both Malaya and Suez before once again disbanding on 1 Feb 1957.
Number 101 Squadron was formed at South Farnborough on 12 July 1917, and two weeks later went to St Andre-aux Bois, France with FE2s as a night bomber squadron.
It main tasks involved attacking enemy communications and aerodromes in Northern France and Belgium, with occasional strafing attacks on troops aimed at drowning the noise of tanks and soldiers positioning for battle in the trenches.

No 101s latest incarnation began on 1 May 1984, when it was reformed at Brize Norton to operate VC10 tanker aircraft, which it continues to the present day.
The squadron converted to Lancasters in October 1942 and for the next year continued to operate as a normal bomber unit, but in October 1943, its aircraft were equipped with 'Airborne Cigar' (ABC) equipment, which was used to jam German radio frequencies.
In December 1943 the squadron was able to move onto the Italian mainland from where it concentrated its attacks on targets in Northern Italy and the Balkans until the end of the war.

He requested, and received, a transfer to Malta's 249 Squadron RAF in the spring of 1942.
After a disastrous public relations tour of Canada - PR not being one of his strong points - Beurling rejoined the war as a member of the RCAF, flying in 403 Squadron.
When that proved no better, Beurling was repatriated to Canada in late 1943 to serve as a ferry pilot.

There is little doubt that outside the small circle of 101 Squadron veterans, few know of the important and dangerous work of the Special Operators and their Lancaster crew comrades, less still the role of the Jewish SOs.
From October 1943 until the end of the war all main-force attacks on German targets were accompanied by Lancasters of 101 Squadron, sometimes up to twenty-seven in one raid.

At 0700, I was summoned to the signals office “at once, in uniform and bring your log book with you.” Once there, it became apparent that the focus of concern was that no response to the many recalls was received at base and they were concerned that I had neglected to respond.
The war in Europe was over and RAF personnel in UK and Europe were being demobbed and released.
