	Noah Beery, Sr. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Noah Beery (January 17, 1882 – April 1, 1946) was an American actor.
		Noah Beery worked in the theatre starting at the age of sixteen and by 1905 was performing on Broadway.
		Beery died in 1946 (on his brother Wallace's birthday) in Beverly Hills, California of a heart attack and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.

		Noah was born in New York City on August 10, 1913, the son of famed actor Noah Beery and nephew of the even more famous Wallace Beery.
		At the age of 19, Noah approached the casting office at Universal Studios and, probably thanks to the skills he'd learned on the ranch, he was given top billing in their latest serial, Heroes of the West, with Onslow Stevens, in 1932.
		From that point on, Noah appeared in many westerns, but one of his notable roles of this period was Rocketship XM at Lippert, where he was one of a crew to land on Mars.

		Wallace Fitzgerald Beery joined the Ringling Brothers circus at the age of sixteen as an assistant elephant trainer.
		At best, Beery seems to have been somewhat misanthropic and difficult to work with, and Jackie Cooper, who worked with Beery in several films, called him in his autobiography "the most sadistic person I have ever known".
		Child actress Margaret O'Brien also worked with Beery, and ultimately had to be protected by crew members from Beery's insistence on constantly pinching her.

		In 1920, the younger Beery made his first screen appearance in Douglas Fairbanks' The Mark of Zorro (1920), which co-starred dad Noah as Sergeant Garcia.
		Though Beery was first choice for the part of James Garner's father on the TV detective series The Rockford Files, Pidge was committed to the 1973 James Franciscus starrer Doc Elliot, so the Rockford producers went with actor Robert Donley in the pilot episode.
		By the time The Rockford Files was picked up on a weekly basis, Doc Elliot had tanked, thus Donley was dropped in favor of Beery, who stayed with the role until the series' cancellation in 1978.
