Noah Beery, Sr. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Noah Beery worked in the theatre starting at the age of sixteen and by 1905 was performing on Broadway.
Noah Beery worked during the silent film era but successfully made the transition to "talkies." During a career that spanned three decades, he appeared in nearly two hundred films.
Beery died in 1946 (on his brother Wallace's birthday) in Beverly Hills, California of a heart attack and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.

-- son of actor Noah Beery, one of early Hollywood's most hissable movie villains, and nephew of Wallace Beery, the gruff but lovable Oscar-winning MGM star -- brought an affable mix of homespun warmth and good humor to every role he played.
On one especially grimy day, because of the scarcity of water at the desert location, Beery Jr., had to travel all the way back to Tuba City from Blue Canyon in midday to clean up, afterward returning to the set to resume shooting -- an arduous 60-mile round trip for a bath.
Beery Jr., Rogers, director Friedlander, a sound technician and their chauffeur got lost for five hours en route from the Painted Desert back to Tuba City, when a sudden cloudburst turned the road into a sea of mud.

He also starred in a group of rustic 45-minute comedies produced by Hal Roach in the early 1940s, and was featured in several popular "B"-western series; one of these starred Buck Jones, whose daughter Maxine became Pidge's first wife.
Though Beery was first choice for the part of James Garner's father on the TV detective series The Rockford Files, Pidge was committed to the 1973 James Franciscus starrer Doc Elliot, so the Rockford producers went with actor Robert Donley in the pilot episode.
By the time The Rockford Files was picked up on a weekly basis, Doc Elliot had tanked, thus Donley was dropped in favor of Beery, who stayed with the role until the series' cancellation in 1978.
