Noble Environmental Power, with offices in Bad Axe, Mich., as well as in Connecticut and New York, hosted a private meeting at the VFW Hall in Lake Leelanau last week, attended by dozens of Centerville Township property owners whose land may be suitable for installation of commercial-scale wind turbines.
Centerville Township supervisor Leonard Kelenski, who attended last week’s meeting, reported that Noble Environmental Power representatives said farmers could earn between $8,000 and $10,000 per year for allowing the company to operate a wind turbine on their property.
Centerville Township farmer Jerry Kelenske (no relation to the township supervisor), said he attended the private meeting with Noble officials in Lake Leelanau last week and was favorably impressed.

Mary A. Fead Mitchell was born in the township of Worth, August 29, 1849, in a log house in the wilderness.
He practiced law at Newberry, Michigan, and served as prosecuting attorney of Luce County from 1901-1913, and as judge of the eleventh judicial circuit from 1913-1928.
He was appointed a justice of the supreme court of Michigan, February, 1928, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Justice Flannigan, and at the general election November 6, 1928, was elected to fill the unexpired term.

The township was formed by an act of the Legislative Council of the Territory of Michigan on March 26, 1835, and initially included what is now Iosco Township to the north and a portion of Lyndon Township in Washtenaw County on the south.
The first land purchase in the township was recorded on June 20, 1833 by Eli Ruggles of Brookfield, Connecticut, while accompanied by his borther-in-law, Amos Williams, and Nathaniel Noble, an acquaintance who lived nearby in Dexter.
It is situated on Michigan State Highway 106 on the boundary between Waterloo Township and Henrietta Township at 42°23'26?N, 84°15'02?W.

MDOT officials notified the township officials just after the last accident occurred that they would not be installing the left turn light at the intersection, but would be installing one at South Third Street and US-12, another bad intersection within the township.
Noble believes one of the problems with the intersection is the speed at which vehicles are able to travel on the road.
Noble reiterated the fact that he and the township will continue to work on getting a turn light installed at the intersection.

The next attempt at settlement in the township was made by two brothers named Murphy, In the spring of 1861.
The first marriage in the county was that of David Beigart to Miss J. Staatz, in 1859, so that the Staatz family had the first birth, the first death, and furnished one of the contracting parties to the first marriage that took place in the county.
The first church built in the count was by the German Methodists, who erected one of logs on Lyon Creek early in the spring of 1861, and which served the double purpose of being used as a church on Sunday and a schoolhouse during the week.

 Alden & Helena Twp. Michigan History
The township of Helena was originally organized as a part of Milton Township by the Board of Supervisors and Grand Traverse County.
Milton Township was divided by the Board of Supervisors of Antrim County in 1865, and all that portion west of Torch Lake was called Milton, while that part on the east side of the lake was named Helena in honor of Helen M. Thayer, the first pioneer settler in this area.
When the Chicago and West Michigan railroad was built through the town in 1891 the name was changed to Alden, in honor of William Alden Smith, who was connected with the railroad and was at the time President of the Grand Rapids Savings Bank.
