The song featured Noddy Holder's now trademark vocal style as well as a foot stomping/hand clapping chorus and became Slade's first hit record reaching No.16 in the UK charts.
The song was composed by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea and thus established a successful writing team which began a run of hit singles for Slade - including an incredible six number ones by the end of 1973 and making the group the most successful in Britain at that time since the Beatles.

Noddy agreed so the three then asked Jim Lea if he wanted the job, but meanwhile the N'Betweens were contracted to play a number of bookings with John Howells and Mick Marson who were still officially part of the group.
It was a frustrating arrangement for Noddy Holder and came to a head in June 1966 when The N'Betweens were sent to Newquay in Cornwall for some bookings and ended up playing a show in Plymouth without Howells.

There are some phenomenal anecdotes in his interview and for someone like me who admired the band during their original glory days it is great to see the spirit and excitement in Holder talking about it.
In his Cockney slang — that also permeated the band’s song lyrics and titles — you can’t stop listening to his stories and feel the passion that must have driven the band back in the days.
