The pattern is the result of the interference of two waves to produce these nodes and anti-nodes.) In this pattern, there is only one-half of a wave within the length of the string.
The third harmonic of a guitar string is produced by adding two nodes between the ends of the guitar string.
In order to create a regular and repeating pattern for this harmonic, the two additional nodes must be evenly spaced between the ends of the guitar string; this places them at the one-third mark and the two-thirds mark along the string.

 fUSION Anomaly. Nodes
Some authors make a distinction between node and element, with an element being a given data type and a node comprising one or more elements as well as any supporting data structures (such as pointers).
In the grand network we are now assembling, the size of the nodes is collapsing while the quantity and quality of the connections are exploding.
The nodes around us—the nodes that we are—are not passive switches, but grow in strength and insight through their range of materials, the nature and novelty of their connections and mutual exchanges.

Sweet Spots in Tennis Rackets   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
In the wave physics field, the nodes are defined as the particular points that never move at all in a standing wave (a wave that doesn't move along the string).
First of all, "the node" cannot be the node of the first harmonic because the first harmonic's node is at the frame of the racket.
For the same reason as the node of first harmonic, the one at the grip is not a sweet spot (Try to hit a ball with grip, if you want.).There are more nodes on the string for the post-second harmonics, but those don't affect as much as the node for second harmonic does.

These nodes are intended to provide high level behaviours for simulations and games, so that when people are designing their own programs they don't have to develop and distribute their own animation and physics engine.
The reason for allowing a random factor is to allow a node to appear many times in a scene (by using DEF/USE, PROTO or Multiple Node) but to cause each instance of the node to start travelling in different directions.
This node sets up a behavior to detect a collision between its parent (usually a TransformGroup) and any other node, when a collision is detected then a message will be sent to each collisionAction in the group.

The physics of the Web (July 2001) - Physics World - PhysicsWeb
The Internet forms a physical network, the nodes of which are "routers" that navigate packets of data from one computer to another, and groups of routers and computers that are called "domains".
The links that join the nodes together are the various physical connectors, such as phone wires and optical cables (figure 2).
Due to the physical nature of the connections, this network was expected to be different from the Web, where adding a link to an arbitrary remote page is as easy as linking to a computer in the next room.

edit: just to be clear KVL, KCL, Loop and Node analyses work well when the wavelength of the signal in the circuit is much longer than the dimensions of the circuit and components.
when that is the case, you gotta do physics rather than just circuit analysis.

Combining physics with your graphics can indeed raise some confusing questions and the answeres are often made difficult by how much time we have spent on the graphics side of the issue; we tend to view the world from that technological perspective.
For example, if the transformation at a scenegraph node is interpreted as local (in the coordinate system of the proximal body or graphic), then the transform as provided by the physics system should be local as well.
