Noel Coward - The films, movies, cinema, theatre, biography of British movie actor
Noel Coward was born in Teddington, Middlesex, over 105 years ago, to a very ordinary family.
Noel was given his first engagement at one and a half guineas a week, to which Mrs Coward replied that she couldn't afford that, but was promptly told that it was she who would be getting the money, not having to pay!
Although Noel was allegedly homosexual, there is no doubt that Gertrude Lawrence played one of the most important roles in his stage and sometimes private life.

 Noel (2004) Movie Review
Noel allows us to experience the yarns of five of these loners as they walk the snow-covered streets of Manhattan.
Susan Sarandon plays Rose, an aging divorcé whose entire life revolves around going to her job in a publishing house and then spending most of her time at the hospital caring for her mother who is in the final stages of Alzheimer's.
I can't quite say that Noel is completely successful in its attempt to tell the heartwarming sagas of the forgotten people, but it is nice that the filmmakers at least try.

Noel is about the times in one's life when one functions as a singleton, or feels like one.
Like the earlier two films, Noel is about missed chances, misunderstood chances, and second chances to get it right, or at least closer, this time.
I have seen this movie and would like to comment on it

Modamag.com | Noel  - Movie Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
MODA MAG.COM -- With an innovative marketing concept, "Noel" is not only opening theatrically for the holiday season - with a one-time showing on TV's TNT on Nov. 28th - but it's also available via Amazon.com on unique DVDs that self-destruct within 48 hours of opening the sealed package.
Along with playing a brief cameo as a bearded thug, actor Chazz Palminteri makes a heavy-handed theatrical feature film directorial debut and, obviously, his primary contribution was attracting such a stellar cast for this maudlin, obviously low-budget holiday concept.
Utilizing a script by David Hubbard that's heavy on syrupy sentiment and light on logic, its antecedent is obviously the Frank Capra classic "It's a Wonderful Life." On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "Noel" is a tear-jerking 5, focusing on the hopeful warmth beneath the glitter and tinsel.

Spirituality & Health: Movie Review: Noel   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
We recommend that you prepare yourself for the miracles that come in Noel, a film set in New York City at Christmas, a time when many lonely people feel cut off and alienated from those who are enjoying the communal and joyous dimensions of this holiday.
The screenplay by David Hubbard is not afraid to deal with coincidences and events that cannot be pigeon-holed by the head but are no stretch at all for the heart.
One of the lines used by the production company to promote this movie is "Miracles are closer than you think." Don't listen to critics who tell you to avoid this drama like the plague because it floats on successive waves of sentimentality.

Noel also stars Robin Williams in a small, but important, uncredited role, as a mysterious stranger who makes an appearance to pass on his words of wisdom to the desperate Rose.
In the end, Noel is a good movie, a decent movie, perhaps if it is released around Christmastime it will be a movie that some people will enjoy and a movie that will give other people hope.
Noel is a likeable movie but it is not really a loveable movie and I have learned the hard way, in this day and age, sometimes likeable just ain't good enough.

CNS Movie Review: Noel   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
But for many it is a time of loneliness and depression, a time when the sugarplum swirl of holly-jolly mirth only serves to magnify the sting of isolation and private pain.
It is this latter group -- the melancholic among the merry -- that populates the intertwined stories of "Noel" (Red Rose), a life-affirming holiday drama about faith, love and forgiveness.
And though the film falls short of its Capraesque pretensions, Palminteri manages to strikes the right balance between the stories' sweet-and-sour elements, resulting in a feel-good potpourri that is sentimental without being schmaltzy, peopled by characters that seem real yet are not irredeemably cynical.

Noel is getting somewhat of an odd release as it will be getting a limited release on November 12th, a Flexplay DVD release on November 17th and then a one night showing on TNT on November 28th, either way The Convex Group wants you to see this movie, and for good reason...
As for Sarandon, Cruz and Williams they each deliver their to-be-expected performances giving the movie credibility and the emotion needed to carry out a story of this fashion.
After 48 hours the disc becomes unplayable, to learn more about Flexplay DVDs head on over to Flexplay.com, and after that head over to Amazon.com to order your own copy or be sure to tune in to TNT on the 28th to catch the only television showing of the film.

Noel: Movie-Source.com Noel Movie, Noel Preview, Noel Review
"Noel" was released in November at a few theaters across the country, and a week later was released on a special DVD called Flexplay.
The movie has a good enough cast to attract enough people to theaters; it would definitely have made more than Ben Affleck's "Surviving Christmas." On the contrary, some would say it would make a good Christmas Eve television movie; that's not a bad idea, either.
"Noel" would be a good movie to watch around the holidays; unfortunately, it is available neither in theaters nor on television - you have to buy it and watch it within 48 hours.

A more depressively fey time at the movies cannot be imagined; I'd actually recommend the film to those who celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa so they can realize how much they're not missing.
''Noel" plays like last year's ''Love Actually" without the laughs or the slickness, and in its defense, the film has a big heart, earnest intentions, and a game big-name cast.
''Noel" has been written by David Hubbard and directed by actor Chazz Palminteri (who gives himself a small role) with a bitter emotional realism that unconvincingly gives way to O. Henry plot twists and gooey spiritual uplift.

What they all have in common is that each one was a beauty who for a brief period in movie history enthralled the audiences that frequented the drive-ins across the country.
For a short period in the 1960s these films were extremely popular with younger audiences due to the combination of the sand and surf, the musical performers, the shirtless surfer boys and bikini-clad beach girls, and the wild surfing footage.
