Noel Euchuria Cornelious Cantwell played 36 times for his country and was captain for 22 of those games.
Cantwell, signed by legendary United boss Matt Busby in the aftermath of the Munich air disaster, made 144 appearances for United and scored eight goals.

Cantwell was born in Cork, Ireland, to a master tailor who wanted him to go to college and become a banker.

Noel Euchuria Cornelius Cantwell was born in Cork on February 28 1932, and gained his early experience in his native country, playing for Western Rovers and Cork Athletic before West Ham brought him to England as an 18-year-old in 1952.
Cantwell led the United side which took the FA Cup in 1963, beating Leicester City 3-1 in the final, and was club captain when they won the league title in 1967, although he played on only four occasions that season.
Cantwell had a further spell in America as coach of Jacksonville in 1981-82, and returned to manage Peterborough from 1986 to 1988.

‘Noel Cantwell, 73, was never festooned with honours, but he had a few: he won a Second Division championship medal with West Ham United and he led Manchester United on their first step to post-Munich glory with victory in the 1963 FA Cup final.
Cantwell had stints with the New England/Jacksonville Tea Men, he had a year in charge of the Irish team, was manager, then general manager of Peterborough United.
