Noel Gay's dreams of forging a career as a serious composer got passed over when he found himself enjoying writing catchy, simple little tunes of which his fellow undergraduates at Cambridge seemed to approve.
In 1925 the name of Noel Gay was first seen when he wrote much of the music for a touring revue called Stop Press which, although it never managed to reach London, brought Noel Gay to the notice of André Charlot, the great revue producer.
Noel Gay's songs are as British as the Union Jack.

Noel was also married, with three children, and he seems to have been indifferently bisexual, though his earliest fond memory was "the caresses of my father's footmen when I was quite a little boy." He did not particularly enjoy heterosexual intercourse.
