Noel David Redding was born in Folkestone, Kent.
Initially Noel struggled to master the bass using the Gibson, a six string Danelectro (actually a Baritone guitar) and finally, on the advice of John Entwistle, a Fender Jazz with light gauge LaBella strings.
Noel adopted a similar role to John Entwistle - the foundation for the battling drums and guitar.

Noel was one third of the phenomenon that was The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
In the late sixties bassist Noel, along with drummer Mitch Mitchell and Jimi himself, created a sound that had never been heard before or even thought possible and which their contemporaries scrambled to imitate.

The news was announced by Noel's partner Deborah McNaughton.
Redding had been fighting these last few years to take the Hendrix Estate to court of back royalties and the case was looming.

Noel's body was found in his upstairs bathroom on Monday evening (12 May) at around 18:00 hours by Bobby Blackwell, owner of "De Barra's" (a pub/folk venue in Clonakilty where Noel, when he had no commitments abroad, would perform every Friday night).
Noel's catch-phrase at the end of a performance for over 10 years was "Thank you very much, good night, and good luck." Sadly, Noel's own luck ran out on 11 May 2003.

As for Noel Redding's bass guitar playing...for me, he was what was supposed to have been, right where he was and in the times that he was.
Redding was adequate and played exactly what Hendrix told him to, this was the cause of most of their rows.
Redding not a dynamic bassist but good, a guitarist who switched to bass and largely picked because of his appearence.

On meeting Noel I found him to be a kind gentle considerate soul unaffected by fame and for all that, retaining a great sense of humour despite the firey trials in his life.
Noel was a man we could all learn from.He gave so much to others with little regard for him self.Noel will be dearly missed.I can say i know him by his music and that was truely great.Thanks for making this world better through your music.God bless and sweet dreams.
Noel was a truly beautiful soul as most people that knew him are now testifying to that fact, he believed in God, he believed in love, was a true friend to those of us who were lucky enough to call him that.

Born in Folkestone, England, as Noel David Redding, he was selected by Chas Chandler to join Hendrix's band in 1966, and left in 1969.
The Lonely Ones made (45 EP vinyl, private record) at the Hayton Manor Studio in Stanford, Kent, in 1963, with Derek Knight on vocals, Trevor Sutton on drums, Noel Redding on lead guitar and John Andrews on bass.
At 17 Noel went professional and toured in Scotland and Germany, in the clubs with The Burnettes and The Loving Kind.
