Mr Noel Treacy TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food, is leading a mission to Japan of Irish food companies and research institutions involved in the development of the Irish functional foods sector.
Minister Treacy said he was extremely pleased to be leading this mission during which he said Irish delegates will meet with many of the leading Japanese dairy and functional foods companies and Government bodies, as well as visiting a number of research institutes.
Minister Treacy underlined the absolute priority that the Irish Government and Enterprise Ireland is placing on developing the functional foods sector in Ireland and on ensuring that the conditions are in place to promote its success.

 RTE News - Treacy - 'No evidence' for Mahon leak claim
Minister of State Noel Treacy has said he regrets creating the impression that the Mahon Tribunal was responsible for the leaking of confidential information about payments to Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
Mr Treacy told the Mahon Tribunal that he had no evidence to back up his claim that a well known source inside the inquiry was constantly leaking information for political purposes.
But Mr Treacy agreed under questioning by counsel for the inquiry that the integrity of the tribunal was of critical importance.

The Irish Independent newspaper reports that the warnings were issued before Minister of State Noel Treacy's civilian driver was convicted of speeding at 95mph in a 60mph zone while bringing him to a Dail (Parliamentary) debate.
Treacy's driver occurs at a time when Irelands motorists are being hit with penalty points and higher insurance premiums in a war against unsafe driving.
Treacy said he regretted the conviction but defended the driver's actions.

In the Newstalk interview, (2 weeks ago ??) Treacy did a good job convincing me that the leaks were from inside the tribunal.

Noel Treacy, Minister of State at the Irish Department of Agriculture and Food, today announced that he had approved seven organic demonstration farms in line with a recommendation from the National Steering Group for the Organic Sector.
The farms are being established initially on a pilot basis for one year and have been selected to demonstrate a variety of organic farming methods.
The approval of demonstration farms is in response to a recommendation contained in the Report of the Organic Development Committee, presented to the Minister in April 2002.
