Nogrod - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
While initially friendly to the Elves of Beleriand, several Dwarves of Nogrod ultimately murdered Thingol of Doriath in his treasury after he refused to hand over the Nauglamir, an ancient and precious dwarven treasure that they had crafted into union with a Silmarillion, an even more magnificient elvish treasure.
The dwarven craftsmen were denied the treasure nontheless, but the Firebeards assembled an army that returned to successfully sack the city after the departure of Thingols greiving widow, a demi-goddess who took her protective magic, the Girdle of Melian, with her.
This army was subsequently ambushed and annihilated by Beren Erchamion his army of Laiquendi, together with a group of Ents.

One of the two great kingdoms of Dwarves in the Blue Mountains was Nogrod, the "Dwarf dwelling".
The Dwarves of Nogrod, Just like those of nearby Belegost, were skilled smiths and craftsmen who prospered in their trade with the Elves of Beleriand, and fought valiantly against Orcs and Dragons during the First Age.
However, before they could safely return to Nogrod, the Dwarf army was ambushed by Beren and Dior and, with the aid of the Laiquendi and the Ents, the entire army was slaughtered.

It was there, lost in the deeps of time, that in Nogrod Telchar, the greatest smith of the Dwarven race, fashioned many fair and bright things, many keen blades and stout hauberks of mail.
The blade was fashioned in form of long-sword, a two-handed weapon of extraordinarily keen edge that was to prove impossible to withstand in battle - a beacon of hope to its allies and a deadly terror to its foes.

5)The unwillingness of the Dwarves of Belegost to ally with the Dwarves of Nogrod.
We agree on one important point, the Lord of Nogrod made his decition on the base of false information which was given him by the surviving craftsmen, so the blame for the sorrow caused by the decition to both the people of Doriath and the people of Nogrod falls on their heads.
So, returning to Nogrod, the dwarves lied to their kin about what happened in Doriath (though lust for the Silmaril certainly clouded their reasoning) and a great force of Dwarves came from Nogrod and sacked Menegroth, and the rest of Doriath.

Tolkien tells us that the Dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost freely shared their knowledge with the Sindar in exchange for Melian's teaching, and they also exchanged knowledge later with the Noldor.
These Dwarves had not participated in the war between Nogrod and Doriath, and thus had no tradition of direct enmity with Elves (though Tolkien says memory of the war "poisoned relations of Elves and Dwarves in after ages" despite providing almost no evidence of such poisoned relations).
Nogrod's people were largely destroyed in the war with Doriath at the end of the Third Age.

North of the mighty Mount Dolmed lay Gabilgathol, the city that the Elves in their own tongue named Belegost, which means "Great Fortress", and in the south, the Dwarves dug out Tumunzahar, the city that the Elves named Nogrod.
From Nogrod and Belegost the Dwarves continued into Beleriand, and the Elves were stunned by surprise, for they believed that they were the only creatures that spoke with words and created with hands.
But there would also be darker chapters in the story of Dwarves and Elves, for in the First Age, Dwarves of Nogrod had an argument with King Thingol of Doriath.
