  Noir
Noir is filled with characters seemingly devoid of any morals; this general feeling is one of the series largest delving points.
Noir succeeds as a series inundated with style, but beneath that lies an intriguing plot full of unexpected twists and turns.
Noir is an excellent example of a stylish anime done properly.

Anime Dream Music - Noir OST 1 Review
Noir is an old style of film making created to showcase the darker side of humanity, while escaping the harsh censorship of the time.
The story of Noir (the anime) centers around two beautiful young assassins, Kirika and Mireille, who cooperate as a means for discovering the keys to their pasts.
The anime is sort of a tribute to the old style, using carefully placed lights and shadows, and disconcerting sounds and music for effect.

In a drawer she finds a gun and a watch, and hanging nearby is a uniform containing an ID card with "Kirika Yumura" on it; she then goes out to find out who she is. On the way she discovers something unexpected after being chased by thugs: she's an extremely skilled and cold-hearted killer.
Noir has very little dialogue, no comic relief at all, and not much action, believe it or not (although the existing action is pretty cool).
The first, rather major, fault is the single trait it did glom off anime, which is the unfortunate tendency to, around the halfway mark, jettison all that is neat about a show and replace it with ponderous, overwrought mishmash.

Noir is the sparsely told tale of two female assassins, set not so much in our world as on its dark underbelly.

Anime Secrets - the answer to all your burning questions
When eyeing Noir strictly from a presentation-only standpoint, it is fairly easy to conclude that this series appeals to the viewer in a variety of ways.
Without such music supporting each scene, it would be easy to both bypass the human aspect to each of the main characters and to dismiss the vibrant energies present in the fight sequences in the series.
Despite its shortcomings, Noir easily establishes itself as an excellent action anime that has a sufficient plot to support and prevent it from being yet another brainless bullet-spray gorefest-type project.

 EX: Review - Anime -
The introductory narration of each episode offers this interpretation: Noir is an ancient title bestowed upon two maidens that reign over death, their flened hands protecting the peace of the newborns.
However, the story goes into full swing by episode 10 with the introduction of an assassin named Chloe, who declares herself the "True Noir." Chloe and her mentor Altena add tangible faces to the mysterious Soldats and give the plot a compelling drive forward to its gripping conclusion.
People who like to overanalyze their anime, however, are advised that the plot doesn't hold up too well when scrutinized (just like plenty of Hollywood action films).

 GreenCine | Film Noir
Noir's roots can be traced to American pulp literature and German cinema in the years immediately preceding the Great Depression and the Third Reich's rise to power.
Alfred Hitchcock was not a straight-up noir director, but it'd be a shame not to explore the overlap between the genre-slash-style and his work, particularly in the 40s and 50s.
Ida Lupino's The Hitch-Hiker (1953) has been called the only true noir directed by a woman, but those who make that claim probably also mean to include the provision "during the classic noir period." Regardless, the heroine of American independent cinema proclaimed it her best film and few would argue.
