Ishikawa was formed from the merger of Kaga Province and the smaller Noto Province.
Ishikawa is on the Sea of Japan coast.
On March 1, 2005 the town of Noto and village of Yanagida from the former Fugeshi District merged with the town of Uchiura from the former Suzu District, Ishikawa forming a new town of Noto and the districts merged forming Hosu District.

This article is about the city in Ishikawa prefecture, for the former province of Japan, see Kaga province.
The new Kaga city was established in October 1, 2005 by merger of the old Kaga city and Yamanaka town in Enuma District.
Created as an old temple town, the city was greatly developed by the Maeda family in the early Edo period.

On March 31, 2005, the towns of Hiwa, Kuchiwa, Saijo, Takano, and Tojo, from the former Hiba District (dissolved by this action) and the town of Souryo from the former Konu District (dissolved by this action) merged into the expanded city of Shobara.

Apparent proof has been obtained that the shocks occurring in the Pacific districts originate at the bottom of the sea the Tuscarora Deep is supposed to be the centre of seismic activity and they are accompanied in most cases by tidal waves.
Winter in these districts does not last more than two months, from the end of December to the beginning of March; for although the latter month is not free from frost and even snow, the balminess of spring makes itself plainly perceptible.
In the district on the east of the main island the snowfall is insignificant, seldom attaining a depth of more than four or five inches and generally melting in a few days, while bright, sunny skies are usual.

Ishikawa Prefecture is divided into three zones which reflect the districts or "Gun" where the kilns were located.
Nomi Kutani is also quite famous as it includes many well known kilns such as Wakasugi-gama, Ono-gama, Rendaiji-gama, Shoza-gama and Sano-gama.
Nomi Gun had a high concentration of kilns compared to Enuma Gun and also these kilns generally speaking had a longer life time.
