None So Vile is simply one of the best albums in Death Metal history, some songs may sound repetitive yes, but if you Really pay attention to all the details you finally will love this album.
Another incredible song is "Phobophile" if you want fast, complex, rushing drum beats, this is the song for you, but anyway that song is legendary so we all know what this song represents, I won't repeat what everyone always say.

"None So Vile" is a testament to the Death Metal formula, and the odd thing is is that not many have tried to emulate it.
None So Vile is incredibly fast, technical, complex and brutal, and thus this record appeals more to fans of Suffocation and Atheist.
None of them are about eating babies and raping women, as most death metal is, but they are truly sinister and psychotic, but presented in a calm fashion, yet presented in such a brutal manner via the vocals.

Two months after the Release of "None so vile", which was early in June 1996, the band embarked on yet another Canadian tour that was more compact this time around and lasted a month.
The new songs, 5 completed so far, are even more exorbitantly brutal than their previous material, believe it or not.

So for those that were not too fond of Worm's vocals in the past (or vice versa), "Once Was Not" might change a few things.
Post "None So Vile" Cryptopsy just started venturing off into simply mindless technicality and not much else; which was perhaps the reason why interest in this band started to decline, but "Once Was Not" appears to be a few steps back so to speak.
The drum sound is actually quite high in the mix so maybe that is what makes it stand out so much, but either way, it is definitely a treat to listen to.

While I think every song on "None So Vile" is good, different, and plentiful, my personal favorites are "Phobophile", "Dead And Dripping", and "Slit Your Guts".

Since Crytopsy specializes in heavy brutality and relies on "technical" ability (read: the drummer can play many different rhythm patterns in a row and the guitars spend most of their time trying to keep up), it already separates out who is going to enjoy this album and who is going to despise it.

THE METAL OBSERVER - Review - CRYPTOPSY - None So Vile
The greatest thing about this band is that the riffs are almost totally atonal, therefore not really confined to any scalar nor theoretical confinements, allowing the songs to be as free-formed as the band wants them to be.
Couple this with the fact that CRYPTOPSY's main musical goal is not only to beat the shit out of their listener, but also to do so in unpredictable manners and quite a scary feeling is induced.
All factors that were a reason to get the first album are present on this one, but they have also been improved.

The music itself is well played, although highly 'borrowed' from more established acts, making it rather dull to me since I feel as though I've already heard this album a hundred times before even getting through the first listen.
I personally don't think this will impact the music that much, unless someone else in the band starts writing the music, and stops listening to Eaten Back To Life and None So Vile The talent is there, but there's just nothing here to really keep your interest.

It's incredibly tight, fast, and complex; the riffs are well-placed and darkly catchy; the guitar solos are completely over the top; and the vocals -- a mix of psychotic low-end growls and tortured screams -- are suitably intense and scary.

Subsequent Cryptopsy albums may be more innovative in their use of out-there time signatures and guitar harmonies, for example, but None So Vile achieves near perfection on its own terms, within the death metal genre.
