Sultry vocalist and pianist Norah Jones developed her unique blend of jazz and traditional vocal pop with hints of bluesy country and contemporary folk due in large part to her unique upbringing.
Putting her vocal talents on the back burner, Jones worked toward earning a degree in jazz piano at the University of North Texas for two years before accepting a friend's offer of a summer sublet in Greenwich Village during the summer of 1999.
Jones appeared regularly with the trip-hop-electronica band Wax Poetic and assembled her own group around songwriters Jesse Harris (guitar) and Lee Alexander (bass), with Dan Rieser on drums.

When she turned four Jones was relocated to a suburb of Dallas, where she developed an interest in music by way of her mother's Billie Holiday records and participation in the church choir.
Jones excelled in her studies, earning multiple performance and composition awards, and gaining entrance into the University of North Texas as a jazz piano major shortly after her high school graduation.

Though Jones relied on wedge monitors at Bimbo's, she has also used in-ear monitors when appearing on a larger stage, such as when she did five dates opening for the Indigo Girls earlier in the tour.
Norah Jones also did well at Bimbo's, where the audience sat attentively throughout the 20-song set, which included some new songs and a few well-chosen covers: Kris Kristofferson's “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” Mose Allison's “Everybody's Cryin' Mercy,” and “Bessie Smith,” another song from The Band's catalog.
