Topographically, the station lies frustratingly shy of the main line to the South Coast which was routed through New Malden and Surbiton - a route harking back to when Kingston decided it didn't want a flithy railway through its town centre.
Norbiton station lies on a pretty much standalone loop which takes in Kingston, Twickenham and Richmond.
The station's claim to fame is that it was used as the filming location from which the title character caught his train each morning (with decreasing punctuality) in the British sitcom, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.

The easiest way to reach the school is to alight at Norbiton station, leave the station through the ticket hall at the front, cross the road and either take Manorgate Road or use the quicker pedestrian alleyway that passes under the railway bridge.
Kingston and Norbiton stations are both just under a mile from the school and the walk takes about a quarter of an hour from either.
As you pass Kingston railway station keep to the right and drop down to pass under the railway bridge.

Police officers across south London were primed to arrest Senior on sight but once again it was Kingston officers who spotted him near Norbiton station and chased him across the railway tracks before arresting him in a back garden.
A manhunt across south west London ended where it had begun when two Kingston police officers recognised Senior outside Norbiton station from the photograph in their pocket books, 17 days after the rape.
