Nordskog Records was a small record label based in California in the early 1920s that produced some interesting historic recordings.
Nordskog Records was founded by Andrae Nordskog of Santa Monica, California in or about 1921.
Among the records which survived to be pressed were the only recordings of Eva Tanguay, early sides by Abe Lyman's Orchestra, and a number of recordings by Kid Ory's band.

Factory Records was a Manchester-based record label, managed by Tony Wilson, which featured several prominent musical acts, such as Joy Division, New Order, The Durutti Column, The Happy Mondays, James and (briefly) Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
Like the label 4AD, Factory Records used a creative team (most notably record producer Martin Hannett and graphic designer Peter Saville) which gave the label, and the artists recording for it, a particular sound and image.
It became a cultural hub in Manchester as the center of the emerging techno and acid house genres in the late eighties and early nineties.

The record was only sold in their music store at 12th and Central Avenue in Los Angeles.
Although only 5000 of these records were printed, the two tracks were the first jazz recordings made by an African-American band from New Orleans and they are a fine example of the New Orleans ensemble style of playing.
It is interesting to compare this 1922 version of Ory's Creole Trombone with the version of Ory's Creole Trombone that he recorded five years later with Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five.

 CALIFORNIA RECORDS AND RECORD LABELS AND STUDIOS OF THE 1920s
Nordskog is remembered primarily as the first company to record pioneer jazz trombonist Kid Ory and the only company to issue a record by vaudeville sensation Eva Tanguay.
The Golden Record Company of Los Angeles was launched by Theophilus Fitz, who claimed that the city was “peculiarly suitable for the manufacture of phonograph records on account of atmospheric conditions.” Like Nordskog, Fitz was an affluent businessman and something of a dilettante.
Nordskog’s home-made recording equipment is now in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

Eva Tanguay is remembered for brassy self-confident songs that symbolized the emancipated woman such as "Its All Been Done Before But Not the Way I Do It." In showbiz circles, she was nicknamed the "I Don’t Care Girl," after her most famous song, "I Don’t Care What Happens to Me."
When the making of records was still in its infancy, Tanguay did record a few songs for Nordskog Records.
In addition to her singing career, she also starred in two film comedies that, despite the limitations of silent film, used the screen to capture her lusty stage vitality to its fullest.

In Chicago for most of the 1920s, he was very active in recording studios, with bands of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Joe King Oliver, and others.
After this he returned to California and in the 1940s and 1950s his band was an important force in reviving interest in New Orleans style jazz, making popular radio broadcasts and recordings.

His records were issued on both the Hollywood and Sunset labels as by the Waikiki Hawaiian Trio and the Hawaiian Syncopators.
