 | | Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk State University, founded in 1935 and celebrating 70 years of service, has named Carl D. Burt, city of Newport News deputy chief of police, as its new chief of police, effective December 1, 2005. |
 | | As chief of police, Burt will be responsible for providing leadership and management to the university’s police department including administrative services, investigations, operations, and uniformed patrol divisions. |
 | | He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Leadership Institute of the Virginia Peninsula, Senior Management Institute (PERF), and the Police Executive Leadership School at the University of Richmond. |
