Her baby sister Constance Talmadge was a major silent movie star in the 1910's and 1920's as well, while another sister Natalie acted a little too, and became the first wife of Buster Keaton.
Norma was eventually successful enough to attract the attention of studio executives at Vitagraph, and she won her first contract.
Norma made a handful of early talkie films, including the surviving "Du Barry, Woman of Passion" in 1930, but then she decided she had had enough, that she was rich enough to retire and enjoy life.

Talmadge is very good in the dual roles, and Meighan is also good, especially as the younger man. Most of the cast is buried under heavy makeup, but Talmadge and Meighan look good.
But Norma and her sister Constance (who never even TRIED to make a talkie) were the biggest names to fade from the screen when sound came in.
Most of Norma Talmadge’s great silent hits of the 20s are lost, so it’s a rare treat to see a few of her early films.

Her beautiful older sister Norma Talmadge became a famous silent movie queen in the 1910's and 1920's, and her sister Natalie Talmadge was the first wife of Buster Keaton.
She used that experience as a stepping stone for Norma and began to haunt the Vitagraph Studios near their home in Brooklyn, until Norma finally began to be placed in crowd scenes as an extra in early shorts such as "A Tale Of Two Cities" (1911 - a film which survives to this day).
In 1978 writer Anita Loos published a memoir of Constance and Norma entitled "The Talmadge Girls." She had written scripts for their film projects for several years in the 1910's and 1920's and was a confidante to Peg and the girls.
