Parents should be aware that Champions of Norrath is chock-full of violence, as well as tinges of sex thanks to the over-the-top female body models.
Norrath is technically a different setting, being part of EverQuest rather than the usual Dungeons and Dragons license.
Champions of Norrath is generic, buggy and has at least one outstanding design flaw in generating items that can't be used, at least any time soon, by the characters that find them.

DailyGame Review: Champions of Norrath [PS2]
For all intents and purposes, Champions of Norrath might as well still be set in the Forgotten Realms, but despite the blurry lines that differentiate all these different high-fantasy continuums, and despite some of the game's rather evident problems, it's still the best game of its kind to come to consoles in years.
The good guys of Norrath, namely the humans and elves, are fighting a losing battle against the bad guys of Norrath, namely the orcs and goblins.
The creatures that populate the worlds of Norrath, high-fantasy staples like orcs, goblins, skeletons, giant spiders and cyclops, are all rendered with care, as are the 10 different player character models.

As it stands, from start to finish, Champions of Norrath's environments and creatures, fantastic looking as they may look on the technical side, are dreadfully boring to look at.
Champions of Norrath is hardly different, and in certain respects, does it worse than other games in the genre.
Champions of Norrath has been billed as an online hack 'n slash for a long while now, and the dozens of irrational pitfalls do nothing but rip apart the most hyped aspect of the release.

Now comes Snowblind's Champions of Norrath, a game from the same design team that put together the excellent Dark Alliance, and Champions of Norrath is so good and so deep as to put the previous games in the genre to shame.
On top of the opportunity to choose the way a character will advance as he or she goes up in level, Norrath also gives players ample opportunity to customize the weapons and armour that their character is equipped with.
Champions of Norrath doubles Dark Alliance's limit of two players in co-op mode, allowing four intrepid adventurers to gather around the same console and hack and slash together.

GamingWorld X - Champions of Norrath: Realms of EverQuest Review
As a champion called forth to help rid Norrath of a devastating evil — one that can even unite orcs and goblins, who were once mortal enemies — players will trek across the lands, hacking and slashing their way through hundreds of enemies both big and small, ugly and uglier.
By the time the player runs through the game for the second time, most of the more interesting spells and feats will already be maxed out, leaving the player to begin putting points into something he may not even be interested in, simply because the points are there.
While the game does support voice chat (and keyboard), you can only enter a game or join an existing one, and there is really no way to know whether or not you want to be in the room you’re in, at least until you scour over the stats of the other players.

But that's okay, because the point of Champions of Norrath is not to immerse you in a brilliant story - it's to immerse you in tons of enemies to kill, items to find and stats to increase.
Champions of Norrath puts a huge emphasis on item hunting and there's plenty of them to be found.
The search for better items and burlier spells is probably enough to tempt gamers back into the story for a second or third run through, both of which are designed for higher experience levels.

Dragons of Norrath, the ninth Everquest expansion in six years, brings together the best elements of previous expansions and story lines into a single package.
Dragons of Norrath is my Lost Dungeons 2, but it also answers many of the problems mentioned by the critics of the original Lost Dungeons expansion including cookie-cutter adventure types and a lack of good raid content.
Level limit aside, Dragons of Norrath includes an abundance of content and features that take many of the best technological and game design concepts from previous expansions and weave them together into what may turn out to be the greatest of Everquest expansions.

EverQuest: Lost Dungeons of Norrath - MegaGames mmog
With that out of the way, the latest in a long line of expansion, The Lost Dungeons of Norrath, continues the epic EverQuest experience through addition dungeons, adventures, and items known as "augmentations." What the expansion doesn't do is make the game any better for low-level new players.
At the time of this expansion's release, much of EverQuest's core audience has either reached or is approaching the games level limit of 65, at which point the standard method of leveling no longer applies.
In the end, The Lost Dungeons of Norrath is a expansion that is only beneficial to dedicated, long-standing players of EverQuest.

Champions of Norrath is the latest game from the developer of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
Some of the dungeons you'll encounter in Champions of Norrath are randomly generated, as are the names of the weapons and armor you'll acquire, which uses a sort of Mad Libs-style naming formula to determine the attributes of the gear.
Almost every piece of weaponry and armor in Champions of Norrath can be upgraded by attaching a special jewel to it, which is another little mechanic that Champions picked up from Diablo II.

Therefore they started to create the Gods of Influence in the model of a scale, on one side a force of darkness or destruction, on the other side a force of light or creation and...in the middle, a neutral or balancing force to maintain the balance without the involvement of the Gods of Power.
And so they combined their elements to create each God in turn, good, neutral and evil, which the children of Norrath may choose to follow until the end of times.

And then darkness befell Norrath: competition struck the vast kingdom, and the legions of fans spread themselves across the other MMORPG kingdoms like Dark Ages of Camelot, World of Warcraft, and City of Heroes.
However, if it was to be compared to any particular MMORPG, it’d come off as closest to Lost Dungeons of Norrath since most of the content is in Lost Dungeons of Norrath-style instances, with single group adventures that, when successfully completed, rewards you with points that you can use to purchase upgrades for your equipment.
With all the new features and lackadaisical content, Dragons of Norrath is a fan service that caters to the crowd of loyal EQ veterans, and just about every EQ fan will be pleased with what it offers.

In fact, the only Dark Alliance gameplay element that's really missing from Norrath is jumping; since it didn't add a whole heck of a lot to the experience, it's easily forgiven.
There are also mini hidden dungeons in the game, which offer a nice diversion (as well as an experience and loot boost) if you're looking for one, making the world more than window dressing.
Playing Champions of Norrath as a strictly single-player experience is fraught with tension; it's fairly tough, even on the first difficulty setting -- certainly more so than Interplay's Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, which came out last month.
