	TN Encyclopedia: NORRIS DAM
		Norris was the first Tennessee Valley Authority hydroelectric project, begun in October 1933 and finished in March 1936 on the Clinch River in Anderson County.
		It is a straight concrete gravity-type dam, 1860 feet long, 265 feet high, and 208 feet thick at the base, equipped with two 50,000-kilowatt generators located in a powerhouse on the right side of the dam face.
		The dam was named for Senator George Norris of Nebraska, a progressive Republican who for eleven years had kept alive a vision of public power in the Tennessee Valley and whose stubbornness finally bore fruit during the first one hundred days of the Roosevelt administration, when the TVA was created by an act of Congress.

		Norris Dam was the first dam built by the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority).
		Norris has the largest flood control storage of any TVA dam on a tributary of the Tennessee - 1,473,000 acre feet.
		Norris' two hydroelectric generators turned out the first TVA electric power in the eastern end of the Tennessee Valley and the transmission line from Norris to the Wilson dam provided the first elements of the distribution system that later spread through most of the valley and beyond.

		Being a yonger riders, with very limited income and lazy parents, my friends and I have been riding in the Norris watershed area for a while now because it is less than a few miles away.
		The scenery at Norris is beautiful and the trails are well maintained but that's about it.
