  North (1994)
On the outside, 10-year-old North (Elijah Wood) appears to have everything--hes the head of his class, a talented actor, and a star athlete, and he even has successful parents (Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
Director Rob Reiner's NORTH farcically tells the tale of the young titular character as he embarks upon a globe-trotting trek around the world, visiting couples from Texas to Hawaii to Alaska as the stunned world follows.
North is guided along his path of parental enlightenment by a mysterious stranger (Bruce Willis) who takes forms ranging from a bunny to a sleigh driver.

"North" is one of the most unpleasant, contrived, artificial, cloying experiences I've had at the movies.
North goes into court, where the judge is Alan Arkin, proving without the slightest shadow of a doubt that he should never, ever appear again in public with any material even vaguely inspired by Groucho Marx.
North's case hits the headlines, and since he is such an all-star overachiever, offers pour in from would-be parents all over the world, leading to an odyssey that takes him to Texas, Hawaii, Alaska, and elsewhere.

AAW: Fist of the North Star (Movie) Review
It would be hard to mistake this movie for high-quality cinema, but those among us who enjoy grabbing some friends and plopping down in front of a TV for some late-night heckling of a well-done bad movie are sure to have a bash (pun intended) watching it.
The movie's big failure, plot-wise, is the end: though the final battle gives some meaning to the scattered bits of abstract martial arts philosophy, it's disappointingly deep (for lack of a more insulting word).
Art-wise, Fist of the North Star offers about what you'd expect from a theatrical movie made in the mid '80s: chunky character designs leaning toward realistic proportions (very similar to the TV series), slightly rough art, and generally bleak (a good thing, being that this is the post-apocalypse), loosely painted backgrounds.

North Country is perhaps an archetypical POB: skillful filmmaking standing on a soapbox and pandering to the broadest audience possible.
The engine driving it is star Charlize Theron, playing an Iron Range miner whose appalling on-the-job treatment motivates her to file the first class-action sexual harassment lawsuit in the country.
The penultimate scene is a cringe-inducing disaster, combining thunderously implausible cross-examinations with some head-scratching "stand and be counted" gestures that strain both credibility and the audience's power to keep a straight face.

North is the name of a versatile 11 year old who can do a lot of things: top the class in terms of grades, out-pitch and out-hit everyone else in the baseball team, and act like a veteran in school plays, but he can't do one thing: getting the attention of his parents.
North then gets a court ruling to leave his parents and find others he would be happy with, but he is given a deadline to meet (the consequence of forfeit would result in him being remanded to a foster home).

North Shore Movie -The 80s Rewind «
By the end of the 1980’s, “North Shore” had not only become a culture-defining cult classic, but is the film that bridges the gap between the Spicoli-isms of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982) and the dude-laden banter of “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (1989).
"North Shore" has a couple of songs that are in the vein of the type of material that Kenny Loggins wrote for "Top Gun." Some of the titles are “Blue Hotel” by Chris Isaak, “Am I the One?” by Gary Wright, “Happy to Give” by Journey, and “Nature of the Beast” by Angel City.
There’s also a degree of substance to “North Shore” that separates it from the pack such as it spending time with the locals and providing some good topical history on the Hui and their relationship to the North Shore.

 Metromix. Movie review: 'North Country'
"North Country," sad to say, belongs in the latter category: a potentially great movie—with talent and plot points to spare—that settles for being just okay.
What she doesn't do so well is tell the story with nuance—of character or emotion—which keeps this supremely well-intentioned movie from delivering the emotional punch that would seem to be its birthright.
But while the film showcases moments of enormous power, there is something missing; perhaps it's subtlety, or perhaps it's the emotional connection the movie so desperately wants to make, but in the end, can't quite achieve.

Hollywood North Movie Review at Hollywood Video
Well-cast with a playful built-in irony in having the American Modine playing a Canadian who needs an American to star in his movie, Hollywood North takes its place in a long line of behind-the-scene satires that includes such classics of the genre as The Stunt Man, The Player, State and Main, and Living in Oblivion.
The film is somewhat unusual only in that it acknowledges a world outside the soundstage as Baytes' paranoia grows in proportion to the upheaval in Iran leading to the 1979 American hostage crisis.
There isn't a lot that is original about Hollywood North, but Modine is appealing as the put-upon producer and the situation the hapless Meyers finds himself in is very funny.
