North American Eastern Standard Time Zone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the United States, the following states are part of the Eastern Standard Time Zone: Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Additionally, the eastern half of Kentucky, the eastern quarter of Tennessee, the majority of Florida, and all of Michigan except the four Upper Peninsula counties that border Wisconsin (Gogebic, Iron, Dickinson, Menominee) are part of the Eastern Standard Time Zone.
The parts of these states not in the Eastern Standard Time Zone are in the Central Standard Time Zone.

 Daylight saving time
North America generally follows the same procedure, going by local time in each zone, each time zone switching at 2am LST (local standard time) to 3am LDT on the first Sunday in April, and again from 2am LDT to 1am LST on the last Sunday in October.
Then on March 19, 1918 the United States Congress established several time zones (which were already in use by railroads since 1883) and made daylight saving time official (which went into effect on March 31) for the remainder of World War I. It was observed for seven months in 1918 and 1919.
Daylight saving time was reinstated in the United States on February 9, 1942, again as a wartime measure to conserve resources, this time in order to fight World War II.

North American fauna - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about North American fauna
While many of the natural habitats of North America have been developed by humans – in particular the western prairies and the eastern broadleaf woodlands – and many of their associated species heavily depleted, the northern wetlands, reaching across the continent from the Pacific to the Atlantic, have remained relatively untouched.
Though much of the native North American fauna has been heavily depleted, it is nevertheless true that more has been done for the effective conservation of the remnant than in any other continent.

CRWS Background Information: Time Labels on Satellite Images and Weather Maps
Since many images and maps cover regions large enough to span more than one time zone, it makes little sense to put the "local" time on an image.
Instead, the time that appears on most images is an internationally agreed-upon reference time--namely, the local standard time in Greenwich, England.
Satellite images and weather maps are usually labeled with the date and time at which the data were recorded.
