Area code 905 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Area code 905 (1-905) (with overlay Area code 289) is a telephone dialling area for southcentral Ontario.
It surrounds area code 416/647 (the city of Toronto) and is bounded with Area code 519 in the west, Area code 705 in the north and Area code 613 in the east.
A previous version of the +1-905 area code was once used as a block of alternate numbers for calls from the United States to Mexico (+52-5-...) in the days when overseas calls otherwise would have needed to be placed through a telephone operator.

Area Codes, North America Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) is the organisation responsible for the maintenance of the area codes and the dialing setup for North America since the breakup of AT&T several years back.
As the exchange codes in some area codes were used up, some central offices started using the NXX format, where the middle digit can then be a 0 or 1; examples of these may be found in New York City or Los Angeles.
Also, area codes do not generally go outside a state or provincial boundary (the only exceptions are in Canada, where 902 serves both Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, area 819 which covers the eastern Northwest Territories as well as part of Quebec, and area 403 which covers Alberta, Yukon and the western Northwest Territories).

 Order CRTC 2001-841
CO codes assigned to the federal government in area code 819 (in Hull) are "dual-dialable": that is, long-distance calls to government numbers in Hull that are dialed using either area code 613 or 819 will reach the proper government office in Hull.
In addition to the CO codes that are protected in Ottawa and Hull, there are other CO codes (11 in 819 and two in 613) that are protected to permit seven-digit local dialing between other cities in 613 and 819, and other neighbouring area codes (e.g., 705, 450).
Given that the removal of CO code protection would add almost 20 years to the life of area code 819, the Commission agrees with the CISC committee recommendation that no plans should be developed to add a new area code to the 819 region at this time.

202 area code, previously useable for all but the outermost Maryland and Virginia suburbs, was restricted to DC proper, with 301 or 703, as the case may be, necessary for suburbs.
Prefixes in the Pentagon, which is in Virginia, were previously in area 202 (not 703), and moved to area 703 in 1990 because of local calls across area code border changing from 7D to NPA+7D; 202- 694 had to be replaced by 703-614 because 703-694 was in use at Stuart.

The CSCN noted that area code 438 was assigned as a central office (CO) code in area code 450, which was adjacent to area code 514.
The Commission notes that some 10-digit local dialing into area code 514 from area code 450 already exists; however the 438 situation is unique, in that the same digits would be used as both an area code and a CO code.
The Commission further notes that area code 250 in British Columbia (B.C.) and area code 403 in Alberta are currently in the seven-year relief planning window, and that area codes 780 in Alberta, 778 in B.C., and 416 and 647 in Ontario are projected to exhaust within the decade.

Because the layout of these areas is generally older than in the rest of the Atlanta area, they tend to be slightly more interconnected, smaller-scale, and more bicycle-friendly than the metro area.
In most of the second half of the 20th century, the north side (in city and suburb alike) was white, rich and booming (except for the city's industrial belt in the far northwest and a few eastern neighborhoods bordering the north and south sides, such as Inman Park and Virginia-Highlands).
The general rule in downtown Atlanta is that the safest areas are the busiest ones: Peachtree Street (the area’s commercial hub) between Baker Street and Five Points (the area’s transit hub) and the Fairlie-Poplar district, a low-rise area just west of Peachtree near the Peachtree Center rail stop.
