New settlers came rapidly into the manor, and at the end of the seventeenth century the lowlands and hills were dotted with houses.

A history of North Collins cannot be written without knowing of it's growth since earliest times, it's contacts with all outlying districts with which it dealt most intimately, and all other factors which have gone into the development of a prosperous, self-respecting, modern and debt free town.
The villagers however, did not warm up to the new name and in the spring of 1853 Shirley, as far as Kerr's Corners was concerned, became "North Collins." A charter was drawn up, and that name has remained ever since.
North Collins has always been in the heart of an agricultural district, at one time it was known as a hop growing center, but later turned to dairying and cheese making.
