  Encyclopedia: North Dakota
North Dakota is bordered on the north by the Canadian Provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, on the west by Montana, on the south by South Dakota, and on the east, across the Red River of the North and the Bois de Sioux River, by Minnesota.
North Dakota is a prime example of a continental climate; distant from major bodies of water to moderate the weather, conditions range from sweltering heat and humidity to bitter cold.
North Dakota's reputation for severe weather has been cited by many as a motivating factor behind outmigration and the failure of outside industry to locate in the state, though some have found this to be a secondary factor to the overall economic situation in the state.

WASHINGTON — The North Dakota Republican Party gave $10,000 two weeks ago to John Swallow, a Republican running for the U.S. House a few states away in Utah.
Simpson says the state party made donations to about 10 other state Republican parties as funds were shuffled not only for Swallow and 1st District GOP candidate Rob Bishop (who received $15,000 from state parties in California and Colorado in his run against Democrat Dave Thomas), but for internal state party uses as well.
North Dakota's Stverak says the deal "does give us a little extra money to help build our party and maintain Republican control of the Legislature," while it also helps the Utah GOP and Swallow.
