 The Hindu : Flood situation improving
Barring parts of North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts, the overall flood situation in West Bengal improved today even as the toll in the disaster crossed the 1,000 mark.
The sources said the situation remained grim in Bongaon, Gaighata, Gopalnagar, Swaroopnagar in North 24 Parganas district and Krishnaganj, Tehatta and Hanskhali in Nadia district.
A report from Bongaon, however, said the toll in North 24 Parganas crossed the 100 mark as the situation there and in Basirhat sub- division worsened.

 Tea Workers on a War Path in North Bengal
The tea workers of North Bengal, however, were betrayed by groups that are traditionally considered to be allies of the working class.
According to a recent circular issued by the food directorate in June, tea workers of North Bengal are being barred from collecting rice and wheat at the usual subsidized rate.
On 19 July a 12-hour general strike was called by the federation of 27 tea labour unions in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar and North Dinajpur districts.
