		Dorset is famed in literature for being the native county of author and poet Thomas Hardy.

		In the final settlement with the estate of Shaw, the State of Vermont purchases close to 1,000 acres (500 now exist as a park, and the other 500 are across the main highway as Emerald Lake State Forest) for $62,000 in 1957.
