		Urinary iodine excretion was 31-37 mcg/g creatinine (Cr) in recruits from the north, 18-29 mcg/g Cr in those from the south (11,15), and about 25 mcg/g in schoolchildren.
		The iodine content of drinking water decreases from north to south a nd reflects iodine depletion of the soil.
