North Hobart were one of three founder members of the TFL along with Lefroy and Derwent.
Over the years, North Hobart's contributions both to Tasmanian football and the wider game have been immense, a fact which was recognised by AFL Tasmania in 2005 when the club was inducted into the official Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
North Hobart was the first club to be so honoured, and only the most parochially purblind of rival team supporters would deny that the honour was warranted.

Hobart and Sandy Bay replaced Cananore and Lefroy and joined established clubs New Town and North Hobart in forming a four team competition which expanded to six clubs with the admission of Clarence and New Norfolk two seasons later.
Hobart's 1960 premiership victory was emulated on each of the club's next 4 grand final appearances, the last of which, in 1980, coincided with a memorable victory over Clarence in the grand final of the first ever statewide premiership, which was played as an adjunct to the TFL's, NTFA's and NWFU's regular competitions.

North showed an aggressive spirit from the start and built up a handy lead in the first quarter, Cananore fought back, but during the third quarter, North Hobart playing much stronger and more effective football put the issue beyond doubt and were never afterwards threatened, winning by 14 points - 7.4.49 to 4.11.35.
In 1920 he was appointed captain of North Hobart, a position he held from 1920 to 1923 then again from 1925 to 1926 and 1928 to 1929.
In front of 5000 spectators including two trainloads of North Hobart supporters, a close and hard fought game was played out with Launceston leading by two points at half time, North by three at three quarter time but in the last quarter North ran all over their opponents winning 7.8.50 to 2.14.26.

North staked their claim early and the windfall was in the words of one writer " the biggest blessing bestowed on North this side of the war.
Prior to his arrival at North Hobart he had played for North Launceston for two years from 1949 to 1951 playing in their 1949 and 1950 NTFA premierships and in their State premiership win over Hobart in 1950.

From being Hobart Town's original brickfields in 1844, North Hobart Oval became home to convict women awaiting hire as domestic servants who were housed in buildings at the Domain end of the ground.
On the 9th May 1931, the game between North Hobart and Lefroy was the first officially broadcast TFL match.
Only time will tell what the future holds for the North Hobart Oval but regardless of its fate, it will always hold a special place in the hearts of those of us who have witnesses some of the great battles that have taken place there.
